Hey Virginia, there is more than just a Santa Claus. Nowadays, Americans have either forgotten or ignored Christmas traditions put in place over 1500 years ago. They would rather indulge in the gifts and shopping to please their family than sit back and enjoy the holiday. This new mindset has led Christmas, Hanukkah, and other seasonal festivals to lose their religious intent through the past centuries by the hands of both people and markets. The original purpose of Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, has been trampled and overshadowed by a marketeer’s interpretation of how to represent the holiday. Santa and snowmen have become the faces of Christmas, instead of the Son…
The salvation army supports the community many ways during the christmas holidays. They have an annual “Fill the Kettle for Christmas” there is also a “Santa Shuffle” to raise money, and there is also a Christmas hamper program.…

September 18th is a wonderful day for the Chileans. This is the day that they celebrate their Independence. This day was chosen because in 1810 that was the day that they started down the road for Independence, though that dream was not fulfilled till February 1818. Parades, which include their traditional cowboys, dances, drinking, traditional food and music are all part of their celebrations. Their cowboys wear flat top hats, colorful ponchos or manta, as well as shiny high heeled boots with spurs. The celebrations take place under a ramadas. A ramadas has a thatched roof made with tree branches and is a temporary open building.…
In “A Model of Christian Charity” (1630), John Winthrop states that society should have an absolute covenant to God and be as established as a government. Winthrop elucidates on this model of a perfect society by creating a metaphorical object, with love being “the bond of perfection” and “ligament”, in which it’s knitted into bodies(“Christ and church are one body”) that act as brotherly love. He proceeds with reasons for this society, such as holding conformity, controlling peace between classes, and creating bonds of brotherly-love, in order to prevent people from instituting grave consequences (“so cause him to withdraw his present help from us). Winthrop clearly addresses people of his own and his fleet, that is Puritans and Christians,…
Does your family know what you want should you become extremely ill or injured? Are you comfortable with allowing them to make a decision about your end of life care? If not, you would be interested in doing some Advanced Directive. Health Care Advance directives are legal documents that allow you to convey your decisions about end-of-life care ahead of time. They provide a way for you to communicate your wishes to family, friends and health care professionals, and to avoid confusion later on. “Normally, people communicate their wishes directly to their doctors. But when a person can no longer communicate sufficiently, another process for decision-making is needed. That is the role advance directives play. If no advance directive has been prepared, someone else may be called upon to make health care decisions that the person may not want.” (Sabatino, 2007)…
In “A Christmas Memory” a lot imagery is used. Imagery is used to appeal to the senses, it also help create a mood. It helps readers think about what is going on in the story and helps them visualize it. There are many instances where it is used in the story, but here are three examples only.…
Egalitarian or customs and believes that maintain equal approach to resources and leadership among the food forager society is called social leveling mechanism. In the article Eating Christmas in the Kalahari, Richard Lee talks about the Kung Bushmen way of practicing social leveling mechanism, which is shown by two clear ways. These ways are publicly ridiculed and in the other manner they show no signs of gratitude and thankfulness. For example, when hunting for a large animal for the Christmas feast, Kung Bushmen does not allow the hunter to act as a chief or the leader because this might cause that individual to treat others as inferiors. Moreover, this act is encouraged in their culture in order to avoid conflicts between individuals in their society. Based on their beliefs, they ridiculed and disrespected Richard Lee for hunting an ox. However, they used this strategy to prevent Lee’s thoughts from any feeling of empowerment or authority compare to the other Bushmen. On the other hand, this master plan will allow the other Bushmen to avoid feeling inferior.…
The paper “Eating Christmas in the Kalahari”, written by Richard Lee, it describes his experience living with the Kung Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert in south central Africa. The story goes into depth about the experiences and cultural differences that caused him to almost quit his three year study. The study serves as documentation of another instance of how different societies of people distinguish themselves from one another and how they conduct themselves on a daily basis.…
Other things I noticed that sounded awkward are the way you used quotes. Introducing quotes is a better strategy than just using the quote as a sentence (paragraph 2) as it gives a better flow and gives a better explanation for your argument. Also in my opinion you could expand more on your analysis of both paragraphs and connect your argument to the thesis and to each other so you have a better evaluation of the discussed topic.…
The Giving Tree is a story about the relationship between a boy and a tree. When the boy was young, the tree and he became really good friends. The tree is like a provider for the boy and always gives him what he needs, such as vines to swing from, shade to sit in, apples to eat, branches to build a house, a trunk to build a boat and a stump to sit on. As the boy got older, the tree would allow the boy to mutilate her and take her branches, apples, and trunk. The tree let the boy take from her because she loved the boy and would give him anything.…
1. Romans, by that time, were focused on expanding their empire. When Pontius Pilate heard about the Messiah, that they call “King of all Kings”, he was threatened that this Messiah might steal this throne and glory as king. Romans were selfish and full of ego. The Holy Family and the poor people, on the other hand, were faithful and dedicated in doing what they believe in. They lived out Jewish practices and beliefs. Jews lived with modesty and simplicity.…
Now that we have reviewed the feedback it is time to implement and add the necessary changes. The main focus would be to strengthen my thesis at this point. It is weak and unclear. My essay would benefit from brainstorming a stronger more direct thesis in order to enhance my introduction. The next phase would be my supporting details, by outsource for statics and credible information validating my supporting points I will make them more credible, thus creating a better impact on my reader. Finding evidence that supports my opinions will show my readers this essay is backed up and not written based of just my opinion alone. Next I would focus on my flow and coherency. I already have strong and informative information but if the reader becomes confused because my paper is choppy than it…
My process for this paper is the way I write majority of most assignments. On this particular assignment I had to analyze my own writing which was tough for me to do and understand on critiquing my writing techniques. First off I had more than one draft, and this allows me to put my concepts of how I feel I write my content. Having multiple drafts gives me a chance to come with better ideas than what I have done previous. In this paper I had an opportunity to have a workshop with my classmate to give me feedback, to inform me of mistakes I have made, and to give me more ideas to improve my work. I found out I did not have a strong enough thesis to make my supporting paragraphs relate back to my thesis. From the feedback I was able to revise my draft to form a better thesis, have stronger support of my topic sentences, and give examples so my reader may understand my collage essay more clearer. That was a great tool I learned from my workshop partners and my professor. I believe my strengths in this paper is now my thesis my supporting of my topic sentence structure, and my grammar with examples to give a visual to my writer.…
