Investigating Corporate Ethics and Social Responsibility Assignment
Organizations and the managers within them are faced with tough decisions every day. Some of the toughest involve those of an ethical nature, where the interests of the organization and its stakeholders need to be taken into consideration.
You and a partner will research an organization in order to determine what their stance and actions are with regard to being a socially responsible group. Upon completion of your research, you will create a brief report and prepare a 5-10 minute slideshow presentation to share with the class. Remember, social responsibility can involve things such as non-discriminatory hiring practices, environmental issues, relationships with customers and suppliers, etc.
The Task
1. Choose an organization that you would like to know more about, in terms of their involvement interacting with society and their commitment to acting socially responsible. This can be a for-profit or non-profit organization. You can select from the list on the back or pick another one of your own.
2. Using the group’s website, along with any others that may provide useful information, research their activities. Prepare a 1-2 page report that addresses the following:
∆ a description of current activities or endeavors taken on by the organization
∆ your opinion(s) on the sincerity, merit and intentions of their actions
∆ factors beyond the organization’s own initiative which may influence their actions or involvement ∆ a description of their stakeholders and why they fit this role ∆ benefits of their actions on the various stakeholders
∆ Social Responsibility Strategy you feel this organization follows, with support for your belief
∆ if you were a high-ranking manager with the organization, what further actions, if any, could you implement and why
