Dinky felt the slider would be faster than a sled because he had used snow boards instead of runners, two on each end. This also set the sled closer to the ground so he wouldn’t catch as much wind. Dinky knew he’d become a Christmas Elf this year.
Dinky left the garage and returned to the house just as his mother came in.
“Oh, Dinky, it’s terrible. Tink and Boo are lost. We had to come back…it was starting to storm and getting dark…we just couldn’t risk looking any longer,” Dinky’s mother cried lowering her face into her hands. …show more content…
She was relieved the rabbit was safe…for now. Tink covered her mouth with his hand to stifle her outburst so the wolf wouldn’t start looking for them next.
Dinky was starting up the mountain with his snow slider and a flashlight. He thought he might need his sled to pull someone if they were hurt. The snow was falling hard and the wind was howling through the large bare trees.
Dinky was worried.
Chapter 5: Dinky Searches for His Friends
As the hours passed Dinky kept thinking of all sorts of scary things that might have happened to his friends.
“Stop it,” he said aloud forcing thoughts of their safety into his mind. “I will bring them home.”
Just then an owl swooped low over his head. Dinky hit the ground but realized the owl wasn’t after him but a small field mouse. He started walking faster telling himself his friends were fine.
Tink and Boo had waited quietly watching as Ghost had slunk back into the forest. The snow was beginning to stop falling.
“Boo, we have to start walking,” Tink said while grabbing her hand. “Sooner or later Ghost will pick up our scent if we stay here.”
“But, Tink,” Boo cried, “I’m scared.”
“I know but we have a better chance of walking. So let’s go,” Tink …show more content…
Dinky knew he had to do something and do it fast.
He came up with an idea to distract Ghost and lead him away from his friends.
“Get on the sled,” Dinky commanded to Tink and Boo.
“What about you?” Tink cried.
“I’ll be fine,” he answered. “Just get on and get out of here.”
The mountain path was a very steep slope. Dinky gave the sled a shove and it took everything they had for Tink and Boo to hold on.
Dinky ran to the woods that was just at the edge of the path and scurried up a great big tree.
He yelled at the hungry wolf, “Come and eat me you crazy wolf. Hey, I’m up here.”
Ghost must have thought two elves would make for a better supper because he continued down the slope with great determination.
Dinky watched in horror as Ghost was gaining on his friends.
Chapter 6: Dinky Gets Some Bad Luck
The Snow Slider was fast but they were running out of hill. As the sled reached the bottom it zoomed forward onto a river which was frozen over. The ice made the sled move faster than ever.
Boo and Tink both felt like they were soaring. As the frightened elves reached the other side of the river they closed their eyes tight realizing this might not be a smooth landing. They were suddenly flung off of the sled into a deep snow bank, when the sled came to a quick stop after hitting a stump that had been buried in
