Analysis Of Education In America The Next 25 Years By Irving Buchen
In "Education in America: The Next 25 Years" by Irving H Buchen, he predicts changes that will take place in the next 25 years. He believes that new techniques will solve budget problems facing schools, and also believes these new techniques will be more effective then the more expensive methods used today. Buchen says that changes will be made by choice and "fueled by changing roles for teachers, administrators, students and the entire communities." (Buchen 299) Buchen states if we could look into the future 25 years we would see "four factors driving educational change: decentralization and educational options; performance evaluation and success measurement; changes in leadership and leadership roles and reconfigurations in learning …show more content…

There are going to be a lot of revisions in the future, and change is pretty much unavoidable due to the altering lifestyles that are occurring on a daily basis. To make school available to all that attend schools need to incorporate flexibility into their classrooms to make teaching our children a success. For example, the families with two working parents have a difficult time getting the students to and from school due to their work schedules. This could be addressed with schools holding different hours. Another example would be the students who learn at a different level than others. This could be addressed by students that tend to have a harder time grasping things can be paired with a student that is excelling in the …show more content…

Schools lose money that the government allocates when students leave. This forces schools to find other methods of teaching that work for the classroom as a whole instead of what I call "generic teaching." What I mean by generic teaching is that each student is taught in the same manner. No learning style is taken into consideration. I believe every student learns at a different level and also every student learns by different methods. I personally learn by being showed how to do something and then working on it until I master it. Others learn by reading. They can read a manual and set up a computer or stereo system. I find it difficult to do learn that way. I have to try and try again until it just works. There are some students that just naturally learn quicker than others. Then there are students that the harder they study, the more confused they are. The last example is the students that need more one on one attention or have to learn through different methods. This has to be addressed by the schools to ensure each student gets the proper education needed to survive after high school. This is where technology comes

I thought if we just did better what we had always done, we would be OK. Then I realized we had to do something totally different, but I didn't know what. Gradually we began trying some new approaches. One change led to another and another and another like dominos. I started to see what people meant by systemic change. A new energy and excitement surged among its as hope grew and the cloudy vision of what we wanted became clearer and clearer. -Principal of a restructuring high school Administrators across the United States are recognizing that the education system needs fundamental changes to keep pace with an increasingly complex global society. Yet, the deeper we get into the process of change, the more confused we can become. We need some sense of what to expect and what direction to take. Seeing the patterns of change can be difficult; stakeholders in a system tend to see change primarily from their own perspective. Often teachers may not understand what is seen by administrators and parents, nor do administrators or parents see change from a teacher's perspective, or from each other's. To give stakeholders an aerial view of the shifts occurring in educational systems, the matrix "A Continuum of Systemic Change" defines six developmental stages and six key elements of change (see fig. 1). A composite of experiences in systemic change from across the United States and at all levels of education, the matrix provides stakeholders with a common vantage point for communicating and making decisions about change.     Every student should receive an individualized education and that should be the end goal. However, instead of going down the route that every student should receive an individualized education then attempt to give every student the same education and educational opportunities is wrong. Every student in America is not going to receive the same opportunities. Not every family is wealthy or in poverty and not every family lives in the perfect mixture of urban and rural schooling systems. It should not be shamed that students are receiving executive elite schooling, parents want what is best for their child and there is nothing wrong with that. Granted it should be shamed that a child is receiving a poor education based on a poverty leveled school. The route that the education field needs to go down is individualism all the way through. Kids should be receiving an individualized education based on who they are as humans, not where they come from or what type of schooling they want to go to. If by ninth grade a child still does not like science, that kid should not have to continuously take science courses. Children should be able to explore what they want, if America wants passionate, hard workers, then America needs to let the students be passionate about something. Rural schools and urban schools are different and nothing is going to make them the same, but how we respond to it can change. Urban schools have lots of real world opportunities for children and half of the schools do not even take advantage of that because they are too busy meeting state and national standards.
