Analysis Of Hitta's Innovation Strategy
1. Introduction
The understanding of the role of Management Control Systems (MCS) in supporting innovative strategy has been varying as a result of emerging research. This emerging research has allowed researchers and managers to fully comprehend the benefits that MCS could offer to innovative companies. This can be seen in effect by studying the MCS used by Hitta.se. The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze how Hitta.se has moulded their company’s MCS so that these systems encourage innovative ideas. A telephone interview with Business and Product Development Department Manager of the company, Richard Bergman, has allowed us to gain insights into the innovative activities of the company and the way in which the MCS designed and implemented support its innovative activities.

This paper will give a background of Hitta.se in order to provide an overview of the company. Some theory and information regarding Hitta.se’s innovation strategy will then be discussed in order to support the analysis and discussion of the designed and used MCS.

All the employees of the Business and Product Development Department, which is the heart of innovation for the company, have been headhunted and carefully selected. Apart from the technical/innovative part, selecting the right employees can affect many aspects of the company. This include their ability to interact with others within the company and to adapt to its values and norms. Another MC used by the company is the budgets. The main reason for the use of this MC is to push the departments to strive even further to achieve to the set objectives. Therefore, it could be argued that the use of budget in such innovative company is more related to planning purposes.     Budgets are planning and control tools for management and, therefore, help to make proactive decisions about business. Being a financial instrument budget includes all revenues and expenditures and provides spending guidelines for the manager as well as sets performance expectations. Guillermo can use budgets to compare his alternatives and carefully examine all avoidable and unavoidable costs. The key to determining the financial difference between alternatives is to identify the differential costs and revenues.
