In “To Kill A Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch is a moral man because he sets good examples for his children because he portrays a leading figure by using his words, not fists, not judging a person until you get to understand who they are, and being able to get along with just about anyone. Atticus believed in fighting with words, not fists. “Hold your head high and keep those fists down”(Lee 76), as the story develops, Atticus reveals that he is a moral man by believing in the power of words, and that fists are not necessary in settling a feud/argument, I also envision that this applies especially to him because he is lawyer and uses words in his…
“To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is a perfect example of how the plot progression of the story was closely related to the character development. Lee used Jean Louise, also known as “Scout” as a main model of character development, as she grows through her understandings of racism, how to handle social situations and her intelligence . The plot progression throughout the novel was very close in relationship of bildungsroman in the characters personal stories. This book being fiction is not true but it depicts how life was during the time period of the 1930’s. The characters also are very close to portraying common people of the time in Macon County of Alabama.…

To begin, the author of the story To Kill A Mockingbird tells the life of brother, Jeremy Finch and his sister, Scout who grew up in the era of racism and social inequality. Jeremy Finch, better known as Jem, is a typical young boy who grew up in a small Alabama town of Maycomb. He was described has someone who had an interest in sports, guns and being tough. The author, Harper Lee develops the character of Jem, who encounters many conflicts (internal and external) and shows how many of them were handled with using the theme of coming of age. With Jem’s voice and characterization, Lee shows how a young immature boy can grow into a mature, independent man.…
Outside, the greens and browns run past me like dogs chasing cats as the tracks flew by like little birds. The train nosily rattles underneath my seat, rumbling along with the rocks. I am on train from Maycomb County back to Meridian, Mississippi. This summer’s been good to me in Maycomb. When I first arrived in Maycomb, it was a disappointment, all I found was boredom. Although, I changed my mind the day I met a funny-named boy who had soft brown hair and his sister, who lived in breeches. They were called, Jem and Scout from the loving Finch Family. The Finches consist of the couple, Atticus and his dead wife, their children, Jem and Scout along with Calpurnia who works for them.…

Chapter 1 In this chapter the Finch family is introduced by Scout. Simon Finch established a homestead, ‘Finch’s Landing’, on the banks of the Alabama River. Both of his sons ended up leaving the landing as, Atticus, studied law; the other had studied medicine. Their sister Alexandra stayed and took care of the landing with her husband.…
Scout then recalls meeting Dill, a seven-year-old boy from Mississippi who lives next door to the Finch’s place, who spends every summer in Maycomb with his aunt.…
The Finch family includes Scout Finch, Jem Finch, and their father Atticus Finch. For Atticus being a lawyer, and for being a wealthy white man, the Finch family had it pretty well off compared to others during the Great Depression in Maycomb, Alabama. Before first grade had even started, Scout already knew how to read because Atticus had taught when she was an infant and they have been reading stories ever since. Scout would be considered one of the smartest in her class because many of her classmates have been held back for a couple of years.…
I believe in judging someone by their actions and character rather than by the color of their skin and sexuality. This I believe because there is good and bad in all of us. The color of our skin does not depict the flaws we have. In the second amendment it states that all men are created equal, but we still do not treat each other equally. Defending Tom Robinson was not easy because I knew that from the minute Mayella opened her mouth Tom was a dead man. But everyone including a black man deserves a second chance. How could I ever tell my own children “You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” if I didn’t pick up Tom’s case because I was afraid of what people would think of me. When people say things about me like “Atticus Finch is the same in his house as he is on the public streets” why would I prove them wrong? You are only as good as you portray yourself to be. But when you are a black man in the town of Maycomb, Alabama you were never dealt the good hand to begin with. Sadly Tom never got a second chance. Tom was a good man but because of the color of his skin he was not treated as fairly as the rest of us.…
"To Kill a Mockingbird" takes place in the 1930's, in a small Alabama town called Maycomb. The story is narrated by a young girl named Jean Louise Finch (known as Scout). Scout lives with her father and her brother Jeremy Finch (known as Jem). Scout is having to grow up with the same racism that effects her father's, Atticus Finch, lawsuit. The reason for the despicable attitude towards the Finchs' is that Atticus defended Tom Robinson, a black person. Tom was charged with raping a poor white girl whose family Atticus thinks is less than trustworthy. The town's racism portrayed in the trial changes the Finch family.…
