The song “I am” by Jorja Smith was written for the film Black Panther in 2018 as a single release. Jorja’s song is about seeking change but is too afraid of societies opinion. The change that Jorja is seeking is most likely controversial and many people think she should do something else. The song, Don’t Shoot, by the Game is a collaborative rap song that explains racial injustice in one word ‘murder’. The artist use the theme that our reason for being on earth isn't to be murdered, but to strive and evolve into the future. This song perfectly fits with Dear martin, because in the book Manny a promising, young black man, was murdered by a police officer, for having his music to loud. We also see that Justyce the main protagonist, goes through his fair share of injustice and brutality by police. According to the text, “I did the math when I got back to my room there were 192 years between the Declaration of Independence and the end of all that Jim Crow stuff.…

In 1979, The Knack performed one of their hit singles “My Sharona” in front of a packed house. This song represented the alternative/pop rock genre, and was considered a major hit in the late 1970s. As a child, I remember hearing the song on the radio and I enjoyed the catchy and memorable tune. Although I did not quite understand the lyrics at the time, my dad listened to it often when he worked in the garage. This essay will first describe a variety of important musical characteristics that are displayed within the performance. Next, it will discuss how this song was a launchpad for a future song that became just as popular a few years later. Lastly, before providing my own personal critique, I will discuss how the song assisted The Knack with getting back together nearly 20…

I agree that actions committed by the United States on the southeastern American Indians was ethnic cleansing. While viewing the assigned video, I determined two examples of ethnic cleansing. The passing of laws in Georgia restricting the land in which the Cherokee were allowed to inhabit served to concentrate them in a single area for the means of subjugation. Further laws were passed deeming the meeting of leading members to be illegal. Federal agents were also sent in to coerce Cherokee leaders into further giving up parts of their land. Arguably the most widely known evidence of racial cleansing revolves around the Trail of Tears. The Trail of Tears refers to the forced march of multiple Native American tribes to new lands predetermined by the U.S. government.…

One of my favorite songs, recently, has been J. Cole’s Love Yourz. This song relate to feelings that we can all relate to, feelings of envy and jealously. We often look at the life styles of those around us, and we see what they have, and we compare ourselves to them. We feel that if we don’t live a certain life style or drive a fancy car that we are not living a purposeful life. We fall into the trap of focusing on others blessings and ignoring our own. From personal experience I have done this. I have looked at the blessing of others, and wondered why my blessings were not the same.…
