A competition initiated by his highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to build a new focal point higher than the Dubai World Trade Centre at the time. The Centre Pompidou in Paris is a good comparison to The Emirates Towers because the use of colour in Pompidou was formally function; i.e. the use of colour was to show the functions of every part of the building. However the use of colour in the Emirates Towers was purely formal, i.e. for aesthatics. In my opinion the use of the colour orange on the interior refers back to the psychology of the colour. The colour orange is enthusiastic, energetic and dynamic. The connection that I see between this colour and the concept of this building is the fact that it’s being built in a fast paced growing city so the architect probably chose this colour to connect the building even more to the people. I think that it’s important that architecture which is thought of as cold and unconnecting is built in a way where there is a possibility of connection with the human being.
