A Adults range of pulse should be 60-80 bpm resting, children’s and babies pulse is much faster and rapid. With mine on the lower end of the scale, means I am quite fit. Peoples exceeding 80, should be careful of high blood pressure or lack of exercise leading to obesity. The piece that spoke to me most was “Duck, Duck, Noose” by Gary Simmons. The artist draws parallels to both the randomness of the acts of violence targeted at African Americans by members of the Ku Klux Klan from post-Civil War Construction through present, as well as pointing out racism is a cultural trait learned in early childhood. One of the most valuable social rights we have is the right to feel safe from violence whether it is in our home or walking down the street. When I look at this piece of art it brings to mind the full history of African-American culture. The heritage of these people began, not as voluntary citizens looking for a new land, but rather as victims of violence having been kidnapped from their homes and forced into…
Eagle Two Eyes Sheltered himself the best he could for the night within a hilly out crop, covered with branches and a buffalo skin. He didn't attempt to make a fire, but this decision had more to do with shame than survival.…
In the movie “Sling Blade” a young boy named Karl Childers is released from the mental hospital where he has spent most of his adult life after murdering his mother and her boyfriend. This movie is very interesting it shows how a young boy that was raised in a unfit enviorment can commit crimes due to lack of knowledge. Although Karl wasn’t the smartest kid he sure knew how to fix a small engine. As the movie went on we soon learned that Karl was a changed person and there were a few people to give credit for his changes.…
“I have a name, I have a target, and I have my training. That should be enough”(159). This quote was written by Allen Zadoff, he is known for his young adult novels, I Am the Weapon. In this essay, I will explain the reasons of choosing the pictures, quotations and how are they relevant to my novel.…
The number of dead in Vietnam was 58,000 and wounded is estimated to be around 300,000. Countless Vietnam veterans were psychologically scared, while other was embittered by poor treatment the public gave them when they came home. Regardless, whether the war was right or wrong, we should support our troops. After reading The Things They Carried and watching Forrest Gump, Full Metal Jacket, my perspective has changed considerably about the Vietnam War.…

1025 Reading 14: Dimensions of Personality: The Biosocial Approach to Personality – Hans. J Eysenck 1. If we look at both the biology and environment of an individual when assessing their personality you could gain insight to possible causes, triggers and reach a deeper evaluation of the person. For example, a person may be a pessimist and have anger problems because he/she got it from their parents or because they were brought up in a rough household where he/ she was exposed to violence constantly.…
Maria Doria Russell wrote The Sparrow in such a stunningly clear but complex way that the reader will want to keep reading the book. She presents the timeline of the story through presenting two story-lines. The first of which begins in the future where we are presented with the last survivor of a space-mission gone wrong with a sickly man, in such a devastated state of sickness and unbearable wounds which hooks the reader into wanting to find out what exactly happened to him- as does the rest of the world in the book. Then the follow-up of the backstory of this Jesuit Priest who is a wizard with grasping language and how he got to end up on a space voyage. It is through these alternating shifts between the future and the past there is a build-up…
The heart is a vital organ in the human body. Though only the size of the fist, it pumps blood to the rest of the body by rhythmic expansion and relaxation. The frequency of this cardiac cycle is measured by the term heart rate. The heart rate is the number of contractions (beats) of the heart in a minute. The heart rate tends to increase with response to a wide variety of conditions like vigorous physical activity or according to our hypothesis, music. Music has an arousal effect which is related to its frequency and tempo. Slow or meditative music can induce a relaxing effect and thus put the psychological sense in rest. Music may be used as an alternative technique of relaxation or meditation.…
When we think of love the first thing that comes to mind is a person. A person whom we care and have strong and constant affection towards. In the 21st century we see true “love” fading away. Unfortunately, we live in an era where traditional values of love and honor are being replaced with our own dreams so much that divorce is now a common word. Peter Meinke’s use of symbols in “The Cranes” gives the impression of being a simple love story of an old couple birdwatching while reminiscing on their life together, but in reality reveals the darker components of love.…

The dark knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan is a movie of great enormity. It's magnitude spans wide with a deep story as well as multiple underlying themes and morals. “I believe in Harvey Dent, I believe that on his watch Gotham can feel a little safer, a little more optimistic. Look at this face, this is the face of Gotham’s bright future.” (Bruce Wayne)…
In the beginning of the poem The Hollow Men by T.S Eliot starts off with an allusions to help him contrast the past with the present. Eliot’s allusions created a distinctive, dreamlike world for a reader to explore. Also they reflected his theory of poetry, this story doesn’t reflect T.S Eliot’s life, but a bunch of past literature was a key source in writing his story. Three main messages from The Hollow Men are people are all full and stuffed at the same time, we wear masks to hide and fool people and we don’t look people we love in the eyes and tell the what we really need to tell them.…
