Analysis Of The Cotton Factories Regulation Act
The first step to creating a compromise for children laboring in factories in Britain was one of the most impactful. This was known as The Cotton Factories Regulation Act of 1829. The Cotton Factories Regulation Act would help the children in many ways to regulate the hours that children would have to work(Tuttle) Sadly, this would have to wait 1 year before granted. But, without as many working hours, the factories would have to close at an earlier time. This could result in those factories losing customers and trading partners. Soon a conflict arose between the government and the bosses of cotton factories affected by the soon to be new law. This impactful law that was created was The Regulation of Child Labor Law of 1833. This law was the most helpful for not only the children working in factories, but all the children working all over all day long. The Regulation of Child Labor Law was created to limit the hours children were allowed to work in Britain. Thus creating political as well as cultural conflict in communities.This law was created to also improve the conditions the children would have to endure whether it was in factories or agricultural labor. Sadly, this law would have to wait 6 months before it was legalized(Rider). The owners of factories didn’t want the children to stop working because that was their main source of their income. Therefore influencing, yet another conflict between owners and the government(Rider). The owners didn’t want to lose their workers that were keeping the factories open, so they decided to put up a fight against the government. People today never would have had adults working in coal mines instead of children if the Mines Act didn’t happen(Tuttle). Modern people might still have children working in those small, cramped mines all day long. We could still have children getting gnarled fingers and losing appendages if we didn’t have the Factory Act created (Reed). Children could still be working long hours every day, leaving their education behind if it wasn’t for the Cotton Factories Regulation Act(Tuttle). This law made it so that children wouldn’t have to work all day in those factories, and without it, we might still be working all day in factories.
The Industrial Revolution couldn’t have impacted the lives of future generations without the child labor part of it(“Child”). Children working is what sparked the idea of creating laws to give them their childhood back. If the children hadn’t worked all day, the idea that child labor might not even be relevant today or at

    A major concern of the Progressives was harsh child labor and the debilitating effects of it. Due to the struggle of many families during the 1800s, parents would often have their children work alongside them in factories in order to intake an extra income. This meant that children were not educated as they were working instead of going to school, and they were paid less than adults and given dangerous jobs that the larger adults could not do. Many children were often injured by the machines they were working on if not fatally wounded, and their families could not do anything about this because they had signed agreements that the businesses were not reliable for any faults (doc#3a). In order to combat child labor, laws including the “First Factory Law of Illinois” were passed, which set age limits on employees (doc#3b). Committees were also set up, including the National Labor Committee, which was intended to move the public against child labor.     For many children, the Industrial Revolution had a negative impact on their lives. The children who had to work did not have a say in whether they wanted to or not. Since children were working about 16 hours a day, they were unable to attend school to get any education at all (Document 1). Because they were unable to go to school, they were never taught how to write (Document 1). Some children who did work in the factories were fortunate enough to learn how to read from family members at home such as parents, or older siblings. In most factories where children were found, they were beaten if they did not follow directions or if they have done something wrong.
