Often in social activism people have to decide how they are going to work towards what they want. Baldwin, in The Fire Next Time, has to make the decision of how he will deal with racial inequality and from which side he would like to approach it. He considers either be apart of the Nation of Islam and fight for separate black and white nations, or continue to be apart of Christianity despite knowing that Christianity favors white people.
