Analysis Of The Gettysburg Address
The Gettysburg address was a speech given by president Abraham Lincoln and the main purpose of the speech was to dedicate a cemetery for the brave men who died at the battle of Gettysburg. President Lincoln was also encouraging the men and women to be dedicated citizens of America.

When I was listening to the speech it was hard for me to understand some words President Lincoln used. The language President Lincoln used was meant for his time not the current time. For example when President Lincoln said “we can not consecrate” the word consecrate I didn’t understand so I had to look it up and then it made sense.

The purpose of the speech was to get a graveyard just for those men that died at the battle of Gettysburg. The men that died knew

    “Every drop of blood spilt with the lash, shall be paid by another drawn with the sword” (Lincoln 4). One month before the end of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln stood and delivered a very unique Inaugural Address, not only because it was his second, but because it was structured very different from others. Lincolns first term had followed the war closely, and it was a great feat to be reelected for a second term. Lee would surrender at Appomattox, and only forty days after the speech, Lincoln would be shot at point blank range by John Wilkes Booth, whom had been within eyesight of Lincoln when he gave this address, starting one of the largest man hunts of the time.…

    Lincoln includes the different ideas that the North and South have about slavery in hopes to bring them together to one.
