Analysis Of The Painting 'Ream' By Lee Loanos
Lee Lozano’s ‘Ream’ is a 78” x 96” oil on canvas painting. This painting displays a grooved conical figure that has the appearance of a splitter screw. Its grooves are articulated as they wrap sensually wrap around around the point of the figure. The left side of the painting is where the base of the cone starts; it narrows down just before the tip reaches the right side of the painting. The use of grey makes the painting radiate an urbanized presence. The use of vertical and horizontal hatching transform the painting from a two-dimensional to three-dimensional painting. In the painting ‘Ream’ the artist Lee Lozano uses hues of grey to construct her painting. The values of the grey range from dark to light, she begins by hatching the top

    The chamber has shown the affinity and communication of nature and human through its decorative ceiling. There are 34 thematic paintings on panels in the chamber in total, the thematic oval panels on the 4 sides of the room showing religious or mythological scenes, or representing scenes of production process and trade. The object collection itself was stored in 20 cabinets. The arrangement of this hidden vault room is quite unique, instead of showing the collections in a large cabinet, Francesco divided four areas to organize vista of thematic canvases. Nagle often sprays 20 to 30 layers of china pain overglaze, firing the piece every time. With this method, the vibrancy of the glaze is shown with bright intensity for a vivid visual appeal. His objective is to combine elegance and awkwardness with a certain unattainable presence and beauty, something that can’t be figured out but looks like something you know. His sculpting begins as just and hand sculpted element, is slip casted, carved and fitted to each other, and finished with many firings of china paint for an exquisite piece. Balance and emphasis are key in Nagle’s sculptures with the crazy control of color in his abstract pieces. Nagle’s personal favorite is a piece he calls “Flat Bastard,” a double-humped Army green bottle with a cherry red cap, a dripping purple line skirting along the gray-colored clay body like pastry icing, using the dripped glaze and exposed clay elements from 16th century Momoyama ceramics.
