CHAPTER ONE

LOVE

RUMOR HAS IT
Rumor has it
That you have got a thing for me
That you care
But we both know that
There is no smoke without fire

I know you watch me
Every time I walk by
Without looking
I can feel the smile

I look your way
And you tried to hide
From your blushing eyes
I know you are mine

Your deep brown eyes
And your dazzling white teeth
From your beautiful smile
That is just for me

I wonder if we can be
A perfect you and me
Let’s write a love story
That will last for eternity

Rumor has it
That you have got a thing for me
That you care
But we both know that
There is no

Today, you made me a woman full of radiance beauty and grace.

IMAGINE

Imagine:

Boy: You and me, we were walking through the jungle
And a vicious lion appears, with hunger in its eyes
I’ll lay my life to protect you my love
I’ll look into its eyes and declare my love for you

Girl: Do you think that I will stand there and watch you die?
Then my love, you must be insane.
I will kneel in front of the beast and beg it to kill me first
Because even death cannot take you away from me, my love

Imagine:
Boy: You and me, we were trying to climb a mountain
So high, its head is in the clouds,
It’s not easy, but was love ever?
For your love baby, no obstacle is too great.

Girl: Don’t worry baby, I am right here, by your side
I feel your pain. And I’ll be with you all the way,
Guiding you and supporting your weight
For your love baby, I’ll climb the highest mountain.

Imagine
Boy: A love so great, that no force on earth can break it,
No religion, culture, status or difficulty can come between us
Waking up in the arms of the one you love,
Looking in their eyes and thinking
How lucky you are and the world seems right, in every way.

Girl: A love that can stand the test of

CHAPTER TWO

INSPIRATIONAL

IN THE MIND OF A POET
In the mind of a poet
Horses have wings
Birds sing with melodies that rhyme
Angels dance above the clouds

In the mind of a poet
The eyes speak a thousand words
Every heartbeat is a note
Love is a source of life

In the mind of a poet
There is no good or bad
Just happy faces floating about
Lovers speak with their hearts and kiss with their mouths

In the mind of a poet
The moon and the stars whisper to each other
Every sunrise is a verse
And every sunset is a song

FINDING GOD
Tell the person who is looking for God

That beggar on the street
That leper with no feet
That widow with many kids
That madman that stinks

That God is not hiding in the heavens

That orphan with no keeps
That sick person you are afraid to visit
That poor relative you don’t want to associate with
That neighbor you keep ignoring

God is closer than you think

A NIGHT’S PRAYER
In the dead of the night
Not a soul in sight
And the heart is filled with fright

The Jinn come out to play
And the witches go after their prey
All I can do is pray

Oh God of creation
I ask for your protection
Against every bad intention

Be with me throughout the night
Until the morning light
And in Your glory I shall

You could almost hear the souls of my fellow men screaming for mercy as the beast devoured every scrap of their bodies. He went through man by man by man in a matter of minutes with the most utterly disgusting noise of horrible manners. I could hear him getting closer and closer to where the place I lay on the cold, chilling ground, praying that I will not be joining the deceased souls of my fellow…

The sonnet “First Poem for You” by Kim Addonizio is a riveting piece of poetry that uses symbolization to help guide the readers to understand the emotions and feelings the woman has towards her partner. Visual and tactile imagery used within this poem helps readers interpret the meaning of the poem. The theme is longevity and the true meaning of a relationship. In Addonizio “First Poem for You,” Addonizio utilizes literary elements to develop the story and detail a fictional character that is in love with a man that has permanent tattoos. In the poem “Sweethearts,” by Allen Branden he describes the feelings of a young couple who have to sneak out to find time to spend with each other. The line, “Through the pale statuary and falling leaves” (2) gives the poem a setting of being in a cemetery in the autumn. Their love is so strong that they never want to be apart. The speaker is a man who is telling a story about a relationship that he was in as a teenager; he is not speaking to anyone unparticular. Through diction, symbols and tone the author explains how young love can be confusing, misunderstood, and full of emotion.…

There is a lot to gain from this poem. It teaches people that they can have a great life even though it is rough during their childhood. If he can survive dealing with his parents going through a divorce and then his mom passing away at a young age, then anyone can. It is tough for the boy. But at the end of the poem, he expresses that he is happily riding his bicycle with no worries in life.…

In Shihan’s poem “This Type of Love” he really gets into detail about his point of view on how strong the power of love is throughout his poem. He details the trials and tribulations he would go through just because he is motivated by love and how love can make us do things that we would never do unless it’s for a certain someone.…

It can be said that struggles bring people together and, at the same time, break them apart. When two people realize their life situations are quite similar are controlled by fundamentalism, they tend to stay close to one another for comfort and understanding, even though they share nothing in interest. However one will eventually attempt a change, to try and manipulate their circumstances for the better or to leave. The other is inevitably left alone and desolate. Although a complicated kindness entwines many such consequences from social issues and other obstacles deep inside its storylines, it reveals its dominant theme in the conclusion: that love endures in the end. Love will make hardships tolerable, will bind people together in spirit if not in a physical sense, and will brighten the optimism in the heart.…

The works we studied within Creative Writing were all helpful in creating my own works to submit to the class. Throughout all of the reading, many of the works inspired me in different ways, whether it was short story plot ideas or word usage in the poems. While crafting my work for the final portfolio, I reviewed many of the poems from our poetry packet in an effort to find inspiration and to create new interesting images. I took the most inspiration for my formal poem, which I found most difficult to write. One of the poems that was most useful to me was Jilly Dybka’s “Memphis, 1976.” Dybka’s poem follows the sestina form; I also wrote my last poem in this form, so it helped to follow the form by looking at her poem as an example. Dybka’s…
