The song follows the same rhythmic pattern, four
beats per measure. With the accompaniment falling on the pulse, it can be considered an ostinato, since it is a recurring pattern throughout the song.
Our world has shrunk, and as a result societies are intermingling frequently. In the essay, “I, Too, Sing America” by Julia Alvarez, it discusses the struggles of assimilating into American society, during a time of prejudice against minorities. People face persecution when coming to a new country and it only stops if they assimilate. The tone of “I, Too, Sing America” by Julia Alvarez shifts from depressed and disappointed to hopeful and relaxed enhances the central idea.…

The song Battle Hymn of the Republic was written during the war and its about the war. For over 138 years this song has been featured in patriotic programs and is still sung and schools and churches across the nation. In the early days of the war the song “john brown” was very popular. Although in its original incarnation it had nothing to do with notorious abolitionist leader hanged. Mrs. howe lyrics first appeared on the front page of the atlantic monthly in february of 1862. Editor James T. fields, who paid her $5 for the piece, is credited with having given the song the name it is known today. After the war, Mrs. Howe was active in women's suffrage movement. In 1868, she founded the new england women's club and was one of the founders of…
Emphasis for the treatment for lepers either had good or bad outcomes depending on the situations. Just like the man in Manuel Philes’ poem who survived was restored by divine intervention, even though he reached the most advanced stage of the disease. Such cases show the historic presence of what is to be a miraculous healing during the Byzantine period. Although bad outcomes like involving Basil of Caesarea and Francis of Assisi with kissing lepers.…
After I annotated this song and actually looked into what the lyrics were saying I learned that not everyone is who you think they are. For instance, you hide a lot of things from people not because you want to ,but because you don’t know how to tell them or maybe you’re afraid of what they will think of you. In the song ‘Demons’ by Imagine Dragons the singer says,”I wanna hide the truth’(Imagine dragons line 8 box 3) ,but then he says,” don’t want to hide the truth.”( Imagine Dragons line 35 box 8) I think that he is having mixed feelings what he should do. He is afraid that if he tells you that you may leave him or you won’t look at him the same way ever again.…
I enjoy listening to this song anyways as it is in my native language and one of my top childhood songs. The song is about a couple who is in love with each other but when the guy has to leave for the US, they broke up. He later returns and the love is still there. This is a very cute story and I love singing the lyrics that describes his feelings for her as he was away. If I broke up and get back together with my boyfriend, I would want this to be our scenario, that we broke up and got back together because of distance or circumstances, not because we wanted this. I also love how there are english lyrics sung with deep emotion in the song: “I will be back for you.” The music video for the song is also very heartwarming and brings a smile to my face whenever I think of it. If I got back together with my ex, I could listen to this song to remind me of my feelings for him. This song is a great song that evokes strong emotions from me and makes me think about love and how strong it is to overcome lots.…
As the Catholic Church continues to frown upon homosexuals, they continue to frown upon transsexuals to an even greater extent. They see it as even larger perversion of the (already perverted) homosexual lifestyle. At the risk of generalizing, I would argue that many transsexuals then find that they need someone or something that will not judge them and only treat them with the respect they need. La Santa Muerte helps to fill the void left by society in many North American transsexuals. With most people not liking what they do not understand or ca not explain, this makes transsexuals the perfect target for them and the Church. People cannot explain why there are transsexuals, they do not know how hard it is to be transsexual, and they…

“Talking shit about a pretty sunset,” is a song that portrays an overall apathetic outlook on life. The listener can clearly hear the discontent expressed in the words sung and the execution in the music. Thoughts of suicide, phobia of commitment, lack and gain of motivation, fixation and illusions of a better life are all present. Through the complex breaks and climax of the song, tells an emotional story of revelation, realization and self-actualization.…
My theme song is "Getting Better" by The Beatles. The Beatles were an English rock band formed in 1960. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, members of The Beatles, became widely regarded as the foremost and most influential act of the rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several musical styles, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements and unconventional recording techniques in innovative ways. In 1963 their popularity first emerged as "Beatlemania", and as the group's music grew in sophistication in subsequent years, led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney,…
The piece Lingus by Snarky Puppy was very captivating. I was thoroughly impressed with each of the musicians and by this very modern feeling piece. Lingus sounds very different from what I have heard this semester. My initial thought was that this tune sounded like dubstep. Dubstep is a form of electronic dance music.…

“If she was a white girl, she could still be alive.” A sentence in the lyric of the song our keynote speaker plays echoes in the assembly hall, crammed with more than one thousand people—students and faculty members. The song Not One More by TWOCC grieves the loss of several transgender women of color. Our keynote speaker says that the life expectancy of transgender women of color in the US is merely 35 years. Compared to the average global life expectancy of 70 years old, that number is depressing.…
Lieder ohne Worte (Song without Words) is written by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. It is a collection of forty-eight short lyrical piano pieces of markedly song-like character that he wrote at various periods of his life between 1809 and 1847. They are well suited to the study of musical form because of their artistic value. Op. 19b, No. 1 Andante con moto in E major was written in 1830 and is the first in the collection. The piece is in the key of E major and modulates from E to B to G major.…
