Analysis Of Thomas Hobbes: Are Humans Naturally Good Or Evil

Are humans naturally good or evil? I will mention two philosophers with two different thoughts on this. Hobbes believed we are all naturally evil and should be contained. Locke believed humans are reasonable and can rule themselves. I think humans are naturally evil, but Locke brings up some valid points as well. Hobbes states that without a government there would be nothing but chaos. Even though there are sizable amounts of good people, the bad would find ways to control, torture, or do other evil things before good could act. A single strong ruler like Hobbes believes is the way sounds like a way for evil to take power. A government that exists to bring order and peace would be ideal. A government that is guided by the people like Locke believes would be a good way to see if order is indeed being upheld. There are many reasons/examples as to why I think humans are naturally evil. The first human instinct is to survive. Greed is a thing humans are born with, based off this ancient survival instinct that has frequently taken to extremes. Humans are also quick to hate others for believing or preferring other things. I see all the time on the Internet, people hating on each other because they like/use/prefer other things, like the console wars, a constant argument between PlayStation fans
Not everyone will be good all the time, they may do wrong out of greed, laziness, or other, but almost everyone has done some sort of wrong. But there are people that have done little wrong in their lives, who have become in control of primitive instincts of greed and other evils, at least mostly, not fully for most however. People have wronged each other for their own benefit, and still do, but they know they are doing wrong even if they wont admit it. Locke is only partly right about people being reasonable, some are, some aren’t, all do have potential to be reasonable, but because of evil desires not all
