“Do good and good will come to you”. This is a quote that to me is true. There is someone that learned the real value of good and life lessons, a young boy from minneapolis. This character is from the book Touching spirit bear by Ben Mikaelsen. Cole learned many life lessons, he learned how to behave, and most importantly he learned how to control his anger.…
Crack!!! The sound that Coles pelvis made as the bear sunk its teeth into his flesh. What could’ve caused an event like this? Maybe a mentally disturbed and rage filled teen who does not know when to back down?…
In the book, Touching Spirit Bear, a boy named Cole has a bad temper, and it gets him into trouble more than once. His anger puts him in a predicament that almost causes him jail time. An Indian group called Circle Justice, focused on helping troubled teens, steps in to help. As a result, Cole has to spend a year on an island in south-east Alaska. There he is mauled by a rare black bare that is completely white called the Spirit Bear. Although he suffers near fatal injuries on the outside, his wounds on the inside begin to heal causing his life to change.…
The theme of Touching Spirit Bear is that learning to control your anger is important. In the book, not only did Cole cause damage to Peter physically, but he also caused emotional…
Touching Spirit Bear is a phenomenal young adult book about a boy forced, through a situation of his own making, to find himself in the wilds of Alaska. It is one of my favorite books that I have read. The author uses great imagery and interesting dialogues to keep the reader engaged. The main character of Cole Matthews is very well-written. His struggles, both physical and mental are described with vivid detail.…
dad. He goes to an island and stays there so he can fix his anger.…
The quote, “man becomes his worst enemy,” definitely applies to both of the stories. In Touching Spirit bear, Cole burns down his shelter. The way this makes him his own enemy is because, by burning it down, he lost all of his supplies. He los his bed, his food, his shelter in general, his clothes, and the book that Edwin gave to him which consisted of the foods poisonous and not. So, Cole is left with nothing but the clothes he’s wearing. In “The Monsters are due on Maple Street,” the people turn against one another to figure out who the “alien” was. So, they go from being each other’s closest friends, to worst enemy. They all have good intentions, which are, protect your family from any harm, but that doesn’t mean they need to beat each other…
I completely agree with this because life is definitely not always going to be how you want it to be. For instance, when you are going through life and it consists of turns and loops but it will always lead back into a positive point through time. When you’re on this so-called “rollercoaster” it is yourself that decides how thrilling or frightening your life is going to be. An example would be Michael Jordan in high school. During Michael Jordan’s sophomore year in high school he got kicked out the basketball team. This would unfortunately be a “down” for him on his “life rollercoaster”. But little did that coach know he became the best basketball player and athlete on the planet. So while Michael was going “up” on his rollercoaster, I know for sure that the coach definitely regretted his decision from cutting him from the team. This type of motivation should inspire the world to do great things and be the best that they can even though someone is telling you that you can’t do it. In other words never give up on what you love doing. Overall everybody has there ups and downs throughout life and when you are in the down part of life just know that there will be loop that will put you back up top of the…
The theme of Touching Spirit Bear is that you can always change yourself for the better. Cole went through some rough times as a child which caused his actions to be pretty dumb…
The theme of, "Mother to Son," by Langston Hughes, is to keep moving on even when the worst of times is trying to hold you back. "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair/It's had tacks in it/And splinters,"(line 2-4). With this in mind, I believe the narrator is trying to metaphorically explain that the tacks and splinters in the mother's life are the parts in her life where she experience the most pain, like becoming broke or losing a family member. These tacks are what slows the mother down in her long climb, but, as she keeps saying, “She's been climbin’ on.” Also, line seventeen through eighteen describes, “Don't you set down on the steps/'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.” This furthers the point of the difficulty of life, if you stop…
This precept is very much like the well known saying “Hakuna matata” used in the popular Disney movie, The Lion King. The saying means no worries and is used in the movie to tell a character not to dwell in the past and be sad about things that he cannot change, but instead to be happy about the present. If you do dwell in the past and grumble about bad things that have happened to you, people will not want to be around you because of your negativity. It is disrespectful to only talk about the bad things that you have experienced when you are around other people. If you can never let things go, you will not be fun to hang out with and will end up alone.…
And the stronger the love, the more that pain, but love bears all things. Love itself is a pain, you might say, but is the pain of being truly alive," says Joseph Campbell. this to me means that with love comes dangers of pain. Inside each one of us as we love a hypothetical fire burns. This fire so to speak is our passionate needs for this other person. Though this person helps us keep the fire tame, they also can send it into a blazing whirlwind deep inside of us. So basically its like a double edged knife. Sure you can hold it and touch the dull or sharpened side but that doesn't mean you won't get cut.…
But all the time ,i'se been climbin' on....." which means that adversity isn't just in your life it's in your parents lives to which means at some point its in everybody's life. Even if there is splinters and tacks in life you should keep trying and face the problems head on.…
Erykah Badu said "bag lady, you gon hurt your back/ dragging all them bags like that./ I guess nobody ever told you/ all you must hold on to is you, is you, is you.” This verse says to let go of all the disappointment people find in their lives and put them-selves first and make it all about them.…
Figurative meaning: Figuratively, this adage means that no matter how tough your life may get, always keep your head up and find a reason to smile.…
