Analysis Of Varicose Veins
Veins are blood vessels that return blood from the outer parts of the body back to the heart. Veins have different sizes that depends on their location and function. The veins that are deeper and closer to the center of the body are called deep veins.

Varicose veins are veins that have become bulging, widened and twisted. They usually look blue or dark purple. Some other symptons of varicose vains include: aching, heavy and uncomfortable legs, swollen feet and ankles, muscle cramping and swelling in your lower legs, skin color changes of the legs or ankles. It almost always affects the legs and feet, but it can develop in other parts of the body.

In the normal situation, one-way valves in your leg veins keep blood moving up toward the heart.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy, premenstruation or menopause may be a risk factor. Next to the gender factor there are some other risk factors. The risk of varicose veins increases with age. If other family members had varicose veins, there is a greater risk you will have it too. Having overweight (obesity) puts added pressure on the veins and the last risk factor is standing or sitting for long periods of time.

The right common femoral artery was punctured with a 21 gauge Micro-Stick needle following standard exchange technique a 5-French vascular sheath was left in place. As of right now, we are entering the right femoral vein, close to the groin. The right femoral vein is parallel with the femoral artery through the upper thigh and pelvic region. It is one of the larger veins in the body. The femoral vein returns blood into the leg to the heart through the iliac vein. The right femoral vein comes from the abdomen. This vein collects blood from many veins in the body such as the hepatic, lumbar, gonadal,…

I will enter Mrs. Frizzle body through the femoral vein. The femoral vein is located in the upper thigh and pelvic region of the body and runs close to the femoral artery (Yahoo Health, 2012). It’s one of the larger veins in the venal system (Yahoo Health, 2012). The femoral vein returns blood in the leg to the heart via the iliac vein (WiseGeek, 2012). Continuing North from the femoral vein I will pass through the inguinal ligament. The inguinal ligament forms a band that runs from the anterior superior iliac spine to the pubis area of the spine (Yahoo Health, 2012). It serves as a base to the inguinal canal because hernias can form there. The main function of the inguinal ligament is to protect the tissue that is constantly moving in the trunk and lower extremities of the body (Yahoo Health, 2012). From the inguinal ligament still heading north I will pass through the external iliac vein. The external iliac vein is a continuation of the femoral vein above the inguinal ligament. It starts at the groin and runs along the edge of the pelvic area (Yahoo Health, 2012). When it is combined with the internal iliac vein it…

Ah, marvelous! The injection was a success; already the ship has been taken into the blood stream and the view from here is amazing. We are completely engulfed by a deluge of red blood cells and plasma in a surge of flow towards the heart. Luckily, the femoral vein that we are currently traveling through is the largest in the groin area and, being a vein, has the capacity to expand with pressure. This allows for us to fit in safely. A number of smaller veins in the lower extremities gather blood and empty it into the femoral vein. Occlusions in this portal usually result in a greater risk for health complications such as strokes or heart attacks, as clots would block blood from being able to drain from the leg (WiseGeek.com, 2013). Luckily, this woman is free of any occlusions and we can continue our passage free of any complications.…

starting point! We are located in the femoral vein in the right leg. The femoral vein is right next to the femoral artery, which is by the femur. The femur is a large bone located in your thigh. This vein has a large blood supply which pumps at a fast speed. If any damage were to occur to this vein there would be major blood loss that could result in death. The vein separates into different branches and gets blood from veins that are located in the back of the thigh. The vein connects with the medial femoral vein and lateral circumflex vein. The femoral vein then stops at the inguinal ligament because it becomes part of the external iliac vein (Healthlines RSS News, 2005). Our destination is the lower lobe of the right lung and we will be traveling there through the pulmonary artery.…

In a homeostasis state, oxygenated blood flows from the heart into the aorta, which has 4 sections. The abdominal aorta splits into the right and left common iliac arteries that supply the pelvic organs, thigh, and lower extremities. (Saunders, 2007) The arteries then split again in the inguinal region into the femoral arteries and other small arteries. At the knee, they split once again…
