I choose to analyze the wood panel painting Virgin and Child Enthroned, by Cimabue, Florence, 1280. Cimabue uses bright color and realistic implied texture in this painting. The first thing the eyes are directed to is the small figure on the lap. The figures on the boarder of the piece are looking inwards toward the child as well as a hand that gestures upwards. The painting uses solid colors of red, blue, and gold. The two complementary colors of red and blue on top of each other on the center figure make her stand out prominently in addition to its large size.
