The simple yet notably patriotic statement of the president earned the applause of the participants at the conference, in which hopefully the Filipinos appreciated it - regardless of their political stand about his administration. Come to think of it, it would be wonderful if the statement “I love the Philippines more” is likewise uttered – loud and proud – by every Filipino; with the ‘loving part’ put into action in perpetuum.
Unfortunately, it is being observed nowadays that apathy (coldness, indifference or a lack of caring) has become a budding attitude of the Filipino people. Filipino blogger and website owner Nadine Marie Niguidula

Furthermore, according to the study, if humans lack interest to do something about the waste, the ocean will be covered with 250 million tons of plastic by 2025.
The Filipino characteristic shifting from being friendly and caring towards what can be described as apathetic is obviously not the change we are looking and waiting for.
Therefore, before it’s too late and before we advance deeper down the rabbit hole, let us energize our caring mode. Bear in mind Albert Einstein’s words, “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

Uttering the words “I love the Philippines more” can awaken our nationalistic side, but more importantly, it must awaken or reawaken our caring side. Here are some basic ideas to start

Relation with other nations is one of the most important things for the United States of America today. As history have shown, the need for the connection with other countries had been existing since the late exploration period, where United States had just achieved their independence from the British monarchy and began their own conquest around the globe. The Americans are the second, yet the most celebrated colonizer of the Philippines. Until today, the Filipino-American bond is evident, from the highlighted date of July 4 as the Filipino-American friendship day, through Filipinos being the most excellent speaker and teacher of the English language in Asia, to the full coverage of the inauguration of the new leader of the US, President Barrack Obama. The camaraderie of the two nations has come a very long way.…

Amidst all the negative things hurled to us, Filipinos, by peoples from various and distant lands (or even by our own blood-brothers), it will never be denied that we have good characteristics that we can be proud of. We even have attitudes that we are the only ones who have. These good things about us are those that compensate for the almost indelible negative things that we have. And majority of them are obviously the product of being imprisoned for more than three hundred years in the convent and almost fifty years of being lost in Hollywood.…

“TWELVE (12) LITTLE THINGS EVERY FILIPINO CAN DO TO HELP OUR COUNTRY,” by Alexander Ledesma Lacson, may be a “voice in the wilderness”; but as Fr. Rueben Tanseco, S.J. what Alex proposes are “very concrete, practical and doable” actions for us ordinary Filipinos. And the best part is that these 12 things don’t need to be debated upon by our congressmen and senators, reviewed by a bicameral conference committee and finally signed by the President before they can be part of the laws of the land, which may or may not be complied with because our Supreme Court can “TRO” the whole thing; and it may take time to resolve the issue, which then would still be the subject of a possible motion for reconsideration.…

In his speech, the government meant well. There was no admission of any major problems in the system, and nothing about what is eating the country from the inside and out: corruption. If you were visiting from Mars and randomly dropped into one of the comfy Batasan chairs to hear the president’s speech, you would probably feel very optimistic about living in the Philippines – the improvements, the country’s acceleration, and the implied contentment of the citizens; it almost sounded too good to be true. Why would the president tell things that would ruin his name and his government right?…

We all know all the hardships that our country faced during the past year. Earthquakes, fires, landslides, deadly typhoons like Pablo and even deadlier rains such as Habagat. But despite all of this, the Philippines, is still a nation to be reckoned with. Ranking 17 th in the world as the most giving, we the Filipino people truly are one of the most selfless and loving people in the world, which only shows that even if we get hit by all these calamities several times and even do it all over again, we can still manage to stand up, help others and smile. That's why this year, we are ready to face whatever calamity may struck us, be it natural or man-made. This new year is not just a new start for all of us. It is also a reminder, not to look back in the past, the problems put on our shoulders by the past, and forget it and just instead, focus on the present and look forward to the future. If we are ready to face the natural and man-made calamities this year, then we are ready to face the face of the brand new Philippines! First, natural calamities are acts of God, to which we can do nothing about. But what we can do is be prepared, especially now that we are experiencing the adverse effects of climate change. That's why, this year the national…

The root cause of this is our nation’s corrupt and poor decision making. Good examples of these are Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s famous 1 million peso dinner and the lack of investment in amphibians leading to typhoon Ondoy devouring the Metro without any survival necessities. In line with this, prior to Bonifacio’s execution, Aguinaldo somehow felt threatened towards Bonifacio when discovering him plotting in secret to overthrown him. Thus our Filipino mentality known as the “crab mentality” wherein we regard the world as a If-I-Can’t-have-it-neither-can-you world, wherein people drag you down for them to get up is…
