1.1 Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) background
The Electricity Act passed by the Parliament of Zimbabwe in January 2003 and gazetted on the 23rd May 2003 has led to the unbundling of ZESA to form ZESA Holdings Ltd., Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company (ZETDC), ZESA Enterprises and Powertel Communications as well as the establishment of Zimbabwe Electricity Regulatory Commission (ZERC). ZPC, ZETDC are regulated by ZERC.
The current structure of the Zimbabwe Power Sector is illustrated in figure 1. below :

REGULATIONS OF THE POWER SECTOR
The successor companies created, namely; Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), are responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity .
The Act also allows for the setting up of companies to take over the non-regulated business of ZESA. These are ZESA Enterprises (comprising of Transport, Projects, Technology Centre and Production Services) and Powertel Communications.
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) was created by the Rural Electrification Fund Act (Chapter 13:20) No. 3/2002 that became effective in May 2005. REA administers a special fund under this Act, which finances rural electrification projects. ZESA had, before the Act was promulgated, been administering REA. The REA Board now administers the Agency and is accountable to the Minister of Energy and Power Development
The author of this assignment is a Senior Engineer at ZETDC Harare Region’s North District and the company is authorised to construct, operate and maintain the transmission and distribution system in various areas of Zimbabwe, and to offer the following distribution services:

· To be the purchaser of power from the bulk
