Graduation Toast:

I would to take this moment to congratulate my brother for the tremendous and an outstanding achievement he has shown academically. Graduation for our family is a big milestone accomplishment. It’s a beginning of a new opportunity and a starting point of a new life.
We both together have faced so many up and downs. He has been a role model, inspirational and motivational to me. Seeing him wearing the Cap & Gown only increases my love and gratitude I have for him.
Working fulltime as the same time being a fulltime a student is not an easy task. I remember him working all day and when he comes home he goes right away to studying. He has done everything in his power to support us in everyway he can.

I know I’m very excited about it. As I’m getting my cap ready, decorating it and making plans with my friends; I’m reminded by my grandfather who, the day after his graduation, went to Vietnam, that not everyone gets this celebration. He didn’t get a graduation party; he didn’t get a bonfire with his friends. He walked off his graduation stage onto a plane headed for war. And how lucky are we that he did. That he and 2.5 million others did. These people didn’t get parties. They instead got flying bullets and little support from home. So please, in this time of joy for those of you graduating or celebrating a family member or friend’s graduation, do not forget of the Americans who, instead of celebrating, died on the battlefield. And instead of celebrating today as a day to barbeque and drink, remember that today, is a day of…

A bunch of my family members was at my graduation. They were very excited for me and cheering very loud because I was about to get my high school diploma. When I got to the gym, everybody was getting ready to walk to the football field. I was thinking that I had finally succeeded and reached the day I had been waiting on since ninth grade. I was happy that I finally reached my goal to graduate on the night that ended high school life and started my college life. Everyone was always asking me what I wanted to do in college after graduation, but I was not sure because I like to cook different things. It is always fun to try…

I am looking forward to describing my most memorable high school and college experiences. I would really love for my teachers to appreciate me for all the hard work I’ve done. For those people that didn’t know about my ambition and what it really meant to sacrifice, it meant a lot to my family. I’ve gotten involved in school activities, community service, and school events and a lot more. I felt that once I graduated from school I would be able to get involved with continuing education even more.…

I didn't grow up in the most conventional household. My parents both worked and we consistently had babysitters and nannies taking care of us most of my childhood. My mom was the “breadwinner” she had always made significantly more than my dad and there was really no reason for my dad to work in the first place, he really just did it because he loved it. As my 4 brothers and I got older it got progressively harder on my parents being away from home so much. When a job opportunity with less hours and a sizable amount of money came to my mom she was quick to consider it. She eventually made her decision, consulting my dad very little, she made the decision to move across the country to a place we all had never been to.…

It’s not easy for me to express how proud I am to be here, with my Mom, my brother and my wife Lucy, and with all of you, at this amazing institution that is responsible for my very existence. I am thrilled for all of you, and I'm thrilled for your families and friends, as all of us join this great, big Michigan family I feel I've been a part of all of all my life. What I'm also trying to tell you is that I know exactly what it feels like to be sitting in your seat, listening to some old gasbag give a long-winded commencement speech. Don't worry. I'll be brief. I have a story about following dreams. Or maybe more accurately, it's a story about finding a path to make those dreams…

Through the years he showed me that hard work will pay off in the long run. In high school he worked on a neighbor's farm to get enough money to go to college. When winter would roll around he would go work at a factory. He always had things to do around his house so when he had the chance to go do something fun he could. To be able to get his job at Kelloggs he went to 3 different colleges. I mean that shows hard work will pay off.…

I just wanted to take a minute to officially thank everyone who came out to my graduation over the weekend. When I first completed my initial degrees, I made a hard choice to not pursue medicine. I felt as if I failed myself and wasted time for a degree I would not use. I was worried my friends and family would feel the same, but it was the complete opposite. Their positive encouragement allowed me to gain confidence to go back to school for a degree I wanted. Even if some may not have been the happiest at the time, I still received support and love.…

Lastly, the final chapter in my story, for now, is my oldest sister going to college. She is attending Baldwin Wallace and is majoring in physical therapy. She chose BW because they offered her a scholarship for her grades. When my sister was home, we did not really get along until the summer before she left. There were so many changes in our life because of the loss of our grandpa, her graduation, her attending college, and traveling to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip to build homes. Her experiences on the mission trip helped me realize how much we are taught by attending St Paul High School and what I have been taught by my family. This is a defining moment in my life because her going away, strengthened my relationship with her.…
