Analysis: The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
The Plot starts with an old man reading a notebook to an old woman in a nursing home. The story focuses on the two lovers namely Noah and Allie. Allie’s parents did not want to marry him because of the unwealthy status of the family of the man. Allie has to go to New York together with her parents. Noah wrote 365 letters to Allie but none of them came to her. After more several years, Allie meet this man named Lon, a wealthy man and soon they engaged. Noah rebuilt the old house just to fulfill his promise to Allie, he even tried to sell it but he refused to accept the offer even if the offer is more satisfactory.
REACTION: When the old man (Noah) is reading the material to her (Allie), we can clearly see that, It is their story but because of her condition, dementia, she forgets some of the important life events like their love story. She can remember but she can’t say it verbally. In the scene where their grandsons visit Noah and Allie, we can observe that she is often sleeping. But before that, the doctor summoned Noah’s presence for regular check-up and there is a question asked by the doctor, Noah said in reply that he still believes in miracle. Some of the critics referred to this movie as a cliché. Well, in the end… It is sad of how the output of their love life became, very tragic.
