Americans in the Great Depression soon had lost all of their money. Banks were failing due to loss of insurance. Up to 10,000 banks had shut down during the 1930’s causing millions of people to lose their life’s worth of savings. Markets had closed because people were not coming in to buy their
products. This is effected because of the loss of money in the banks. Next thing you know, American citizens started to lose their jobs. Jobs could not produce any more products, again, because of the money loss. There became a time where too many people lost their jobs, but not enough jobs to take all applicants. Also, investors found themselves bankrupt. But, store owners found themselves losing a lot of business. The cause of these two effects also leads to homelessness. Hundreds of thousands of people became homeless in search of food and shelter. One woman wrote in diary and had stated, “I have been living on frozen vegetables (which were ruined by a cold snap) from the surrounding field, and birds that the children have killed.” After banks started to fall, up to thirteen million people in total ended up homeless. To fix this situation, president Roosevelt tried to search for different ways on how America can restore their confidence.
America has had many difficult times in the past and more to come in the future. But, The Great Depression was believed to be the worst. Although many people came on the edge of giving up, others tried to continue fighting the devastating event. Now look at how well produced America has become. As an American, this historical time in history has proven to us American citizens that no matter what happens to the U.S., we will still fight through it without a scar.
