The challenges of becoming teacher are easy and it is underestimated by many people. Based on the title itself, “Beginning: The Challenge of Teaching,” I think Ayer believes that most people think that becoming teacher is the worst mistake since teachers are badly paid and often have work in some difficult situations such as dealing with problematic students or constantly have to motivate the students to learn. Furthermore, there are a lot of “myth” about to becoming good teachers and most people believe that going to the school of education is good enough.
2. After I read this text, I think the writer wanted me to believe . . . . (Fill in)
Becoming
teacher is not as simple as it seems. Yes, one has to go to school in education and learn how to become a teacher, but it’s more than just taking education classes in college and more than understanding how to teach effectively. Ayer mentions several MYTH in becoming a good teacher but sometimes are underestimated or misinformed. For instance, MYTH 2: teachers learn to teach in colleges of education, I totally disagree with this statement and side with Ayer because all human beings learn from their experiences and mistakes, therefore as Ayer concluded, the complexity of real teaching can be grasped only through individual’s different experiences and ethical heart of teaching.
3. The writer was/was not successful in changing my view. How so …? Why or why not . . .?
Ayer failed to change my point of view on MYTH 12: Kids today are worse than ever before because there is nothing wrong with kids today. Yes, children now love luxury and sometimes have bad manners, but those bad manners can be fixed by teaching them. In fact, the world itself has changed. Today, students can be homeschooled through online and carry their phones that can be used as a computer. The technology has advanced, allowing different exposure to kids today. In a sense, today’s kids are better than ever before because with all the new exposure, that kid is still actively engaged in class, socially active, and more. Therefore Ayer has failed to change my point of view that kids today are worse than ever before.
