Benjy’s Prelude The novel takes place in 1928 in Jefferson, Mississippi. During the introduction, we are acquainted with two characters- Benjy and Luster. Benjy Compson is the youngest of the four siblings, and is also severely mentally handicapped, making it impossible for him to clearly express his thoughts and emotion through comprehensible language. The start of the novel shows Benjy and Luster going to a golf course after searching and failing to retrieve a lost quarter Benjy wanted.
