Analyzing Denise Levertov's Poem 'Treatment'
Treatment

Poem ”Pleasures” by Denise Levertov is full of descriptions of nature, but the aim of the poem is about having a pleasure in discovering the ”new” details of old things, especially in nature.

In my film I wanted to focus on natural beauty of relationship between parents and babies.
The mother and baby bond is one of the strongest bonds in the world, but being a parent is not that easy because babies need constant care. Most parents know that babies need to be fed every couple of hours, they wake up many times per night, some babies need specific practice to get them to stop crying, to get them to eat or get them to sleep. The constant care to a baby and lack of sleep can be physically exhausting and depressing. Love, attention

With all the distractions around in our daily lives, sometimes we forget about the world around us, we forget about the little things in life like nature and the people around us. Sharon Olds decided to make a poem to appreciate one of the little things that do so much for Earth, dirt. She created the poem, “ Ode to Dirt ”. In the poem, the author uses an immense amount of figurative language and theming to celebrate the dirt while also apologizing for not celebrating it sooner.…

Both swallowed in their job, the janitor in “Jorge the Church Janitor Finally Quits” by Martin Espada and the secretary in “The Secretary Chant” by Marge Piercy feel unappreciated and lost as employees. Jorge is “outside…of [Americans] understanding” and The Secretary is lost in her work and compares herself to objects such as her “hips are a desk.” The employees from these poems have become hidden behind their duties and are slowly sinking into the unknown.…

In the poem Sympathy for the devil, the speaker uses many different historical allusions and understatements to gain the readers sympathy for him. The speaker of the poem is the Devil and he tries to make it sound as though he is forced to be around all of the death and despair so that the reader might feel bad for him. He uses the historical allusion of “I was around when Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain” to show that he has been around for a very long time and he has seen some of the most sorrowful deaths in history. The speaker tries to make the reader feel sorry for him because he has seen so much death. Throughout the poem he makes it very clear that he himself did not murder or cause any of the deaths that he talks about by making the understatements “I was round when” and “I watched “. Those kind of understatements show that he was not the reason for the deaths even though he was there when they occurred and therefore he should not be to blame but in fact he wants remorse. The biggest understatement that the speaker use is the second to last stanza when he list the contradictions “Just as every cop is a criminal, And all the sinners saints, As heads is Tails”. In that stanza he tries to show that people should not be judged for what they see or are around because no one is perfect. The best way that he attempted to elicit sympathy for himself is by being polite by saying “Please allow” and “Let me please”. Him being polite was probably his best chance to gain any kind of sympathy from the reader because usually if you are nice to a person they are generally nice to…

What is your idea of our nation’s first government? Because if it’s even close to successful, it’s wrong. The government under the Articles of Confederation is evidence of this. Saying it was the opposite of successful would be an understatement; something like “complete failures” would be much more accurate. The government under the Articles of Confederation failed due to its inability to get money from the 13 states, its trouble handling foreign affairs, and its lack of protection of the colonists’ rights.…

The speakers in “Morning Song” by Sylvia Plath and “Infant Sorrow” by William Blake express their attitudes towards infancy. They do this through the use of imagery and language in each poem. There is a range of emotions that are expressed by the speakers, who are both providing perspectives of childbirth from the parent’s point of view. The vivid images that are created by these poems reveal the attitudes of the speakers toward infancy.…

The works we studied within Creative Writing were all helpful in creating my own works to submit to the class. Throughout all of the reading, many of the works inspired me in different ways, whether it was short story plot ideas or word usage in the poems. While crafting my work for the final portfolio, I reviewed many of the poems from our poetry packet in an effort to find inspiration and to create new interesting images. I took the most inspiration for my formal poem, which I found most difficult to write. One of the poems that was most useful to me was Jilly Dybka’s “Memphis, 1976.” Dybka’s poem follows the sestina form; I also wrote my last poem in this form, so it helped to follow the form by looking at her poem as an example. Dybka’s…

Lorna Dee Cervantes' poem, “Poema para los Californios Muertos” (“Poem for the Dead Californios”), is a commentary on what happened to the original inhabitants of California when California was still Mexico, and an address to the speaker's dead ancestors. Utilizing a unique dynamic, consistently alternating between Spanish and English, Cervantes accurately represents the fear, hatred, and humility experienced by the “Californios” through rhythm, arrangement, tone, and most importantly, through use of language.…

The text that I will be analyzing is a poem by Lorna Crozier called The Child Who Walks Backwards. Throughout my analysis I will look into parental abuse, underlying meanings in the lines in the poetry, as well as connections I can make personally to the book. I think it is also important that I bring forth essential messages in the words and statements of the poem. The main theme I will choose to focus on is that abuse does not only happen at school or back alleys, but that it happens in homes as well.…

Recent history boldly notes the [comment3] protests and political unrest surrounding the Vietnam Conflict during the 1960s and 70s. However, equally important in this era are the women who pushed for gender role reevaluation and publicly rebelled against the established social norm of a woman 's "place." Although Alice Munro may not have been burning her bra on the courthouse steps, threads of a feminist influence can be found in "Boys and Girls." Munro 's main character, a girl probably modeled after Munro 's own childhood experiences on an Ontario farm, faces her awakening body and the challenge of developing her social identity in a man 's world. "The girl," an unnamed character, acts as a universal symbol for the initiation of a girl into womanhood. Through first-person narrative, Munro shoes the girl 's views of her budding femininity and social identity by describing the girl 's conceptions of her parents ' work, her parallel to the wild mare Flora, and the "mysterious alterations" (Munro 474) in her personal nightly stories.…

When a parent is educated on this they are more prepared to provide the appropriate care for their infants. The way that an infant sleeps is very important because sharing a bed with an infant puts them at a very high risk for death due to suffocation. Infants are very fragile and are unable to defend themselves or move out of the way when their faces become covered and it’s hard to breathe. This is why it is important for them to have their own bed and for that bed to be in the same room as the parents. This allows protection and the parents can remain close to the infant to continue to monitor…

Basketball is a very aggressive, fun, and intense sport that I like to play. It was created by James Naismith in 1861. He also designed the first football helmet. The first basketball game was played in 1891 at what is now Springfield College. My favorite position to play in the game is defense. I love to play defense because it’s so fun to block the other team’s shots and also I like stealing the ball from them and then scoring a layup. I also like to play offense because it’s so exciting when I score points for my team. I like juking people, which means getting past them, and shooting three-pointers and doing all the fancy moves like behind the back, between the legs, crossovers, and the spin move.…
