Songs of Willow Frost Analysis Many will argue that a mom is the most important and influential person in a child’s life; moms are considered responsible for teaching their children the lessons they need to know in order to be successful in their future careers, relationships, and all other opportunities. Many mothers take on the important roles of judge, personal taxi driver, teacher, and housekeeper when they have children. However, what about those children who do not grow up with their mother’s in their lives? The story, Songs of Willow Frost, written by Jamie Ford, is a story of a courageous orphaned boy on searching for his long lost mother.

On top of these unfortunate events, three year old William discovers his mother passed out in the bath tub after unknowingly miss-carrying her second child. Liu Song is taken to a Sanitarium and is giving to choice to give William to Uncle Leo or hand him over to Scared Hearts Adoption center. After giving up William, Liu Songs acting career takes off and she becomes a household name and one of the few prominent oriental actors of the time. For example, Colin remained in China for five years before returning back to America. The story never specifically explained why Colin took so long to return. Another criticism is Williams advanced understanding for adult topics. Willow explained to him who his father was and her role as his servant once her mother died. These ideas seem very advanced and inappropriate for a twelve year old boy. A major aspect of Williams character that helped create the base of his character was his perseverance and courageousness to find his mother. These characteristics were also clearly seen in Modou, the poor African boy in the movie, Almodou. William and Modou both came from poverty and had to find ways of collecting money to see their mothers. Modou begs on the street for his money and William finds coins laying in the street
