Analyzing Kanye West's Song Jesus Walks
Kanye West’s music videos of the song “Jesus Walks” became very controversial in society when it came out because of its references to Jesus Christ. I can see how some people could become very offended with one of his videos because it showed a man dressed up as Jesus. The video I am going to talk about is the Church version of the video. This video depicted the stories of three different people: A prostitute, an alcoholic, and a gangster. All three of them seem to be at a low point in their lives when some angels come and kind of usher them to a church where Kanye West is preaching.

The prostitute is the first of the three I am going to talk about. From the looks of it she doesn’t like what she is doing or where she is going with her life, she is looking for a change or something and that’s why she takes the unknown journey to the church. She is faced with climbing over a fence but when she goes to climb the fence two angels appear and help her get over the fence. I think that symbolized her drive to keep going and that sometimes we are not alone and just need a little help.

I would guess that it is a very hard time in his life and he is using the alcohol as an escape from reality. When he takes his journey to the church I don’t think he knows where he is going he just knows it is time to change. The angel helps the old man walk across a very busy street downtown in a big city. When he arrives at the church and stands in front of the alter, he drops his bottle of booze. I think he knows its time to make a change and that he had a calling that day to straighten up his life for the

Our experiences shape our understanding of our strengths and weaknesses. Conflict has the potential to lead an individual to self-discovery of an intellectual, emotional or spiritual level. It has the ability to provoke an understanding of an individuals strengths and weaknesses through its confronting and proactive nature which can lead us to new values, stimulate new ideas, and enable us to speculate about future possibilities. The consequences of conflict can offer new understandings and renewed perceptions of our self and others. A comparative study of Louis Nowra’s Cosi and Kayne West’s Jesus Walks can offer an increased understanding of the ideas of conflict and their power to provoke an understanding of an individual’s strengths and…

In the film Jesus, Joseph seemed to be one of the most important things in Jesus’ life, but in the Bible, there is almost no description of Joseph’s role as a father. Jesus cared about Joseph very much like his own father just like Joseph loved Jesus as his own. In the film, Jesus became very depressed and didn’t want to go preach to the world without his guidance when Joseph died. Joseph was his role model and Jesus did look up to him. Joseph did teach him how to be a carpenter and taught him how to be a servant to God.…

In the Christ hymn, Paul endeavors to get his message across through a chiastic structure. By using this structure, Paul helps his recipients to be able to “feel” the decent of Christ from God to the worst death possible. The death that only belonged to non-citizen slaves. Paul then helps to to “feel” the wonderful and mighty exaltation that was given to Christ in return for the sacrifice He made.…

"..the husband durable, receptive, gentle; the child a tender golden three. The sight of them made her so sad and sick she did not want to see them ever again."(38) This reveals to the readers that the woman is resentful of her husband's strong health and her child's young age thus, begrudges them as her own life is depreciating. This is a good example of the woman's characterization because it describes her physical appearance and thoughts, as it also give the reader a glimpse of the overall tone to the story.…

The cover provides an excellent source of symbolism and insight into meaning of the novel. The sad, hypnotic eyes of a woman shine through the night sky like two headlights. Inside the eyes, the irises appear as lounging nude women. A green tear streams down from the one eye and vivid red lips complete the face. No nose or other recognizable facial forms appear on this figure, but a few dark streaks behind the title suggest hairlines. Other dark lines resemble the outline of a street. Brightly colored lights glow on the ground beneath the visage.…

One of the first things I began to notice is that the characters within depict a binary opposition. It is a tension between Curandismo and Catholicism. In the story the religious practices between that of Catholicism and “curandera” are binary opposites that in my opinion are depicted through symbolism. The conflict can be seen as the narrator being reprimanded for not going to church, and keeping refuge inside grandmothers house where she could pretend to have gone to mass. Although evading mass would necessarily be symbolic of binary opposition I believe that there are several symbols that are deemed as holy through tradition and holds an intrinsic meaning to those who still hold those beliefs.…

Hozier’s Take Me to Church is currently one of my favorite songs. I probably listen to it multiple times a day but I only recently saw the music video for it. I can tell you it was not what I expected. The music video is not singing and dancing like you would expect from any music video. This music video tells a story. A story of what happens in countries such as Uganda, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, even in the USA and specifically in this instance, Russia: LGBT people are killed for being LGBT, in this case, by those following the calls of religion. Though he does it in a way that calls to mind the racial conflict of the 20th century.…
