Analyzing Kanye West's Stereotypes
In the cartoon of the music video, Kanye West is a taxi driver and meets different people every day. He picks up a woman with her son. The woman is smoking in the taxi and then goes to gas station to buy lottery ticket. Then, the boy takes her mom’s cigarette and starts smoking. After he finishes up, the boy throws the cigarette outside the window. The gas station explodes and they all pass away.

Kanye West made the song not to entertain audience but to share his opinions and educate them . The scene in the cartoon is a metaphor criticizing people dreaming about money endlessly and passing bad habits to their kid. Thus, this song is not only a great song in terms of its rhyme and lyrics, but more importantly its conducts Kanye’s opinions

According to Alex Wainer, the history of American entertainment has displayed derogatory images of African Americans on TV and even Disney animated motion pictures. These negative stereotypes depicted in films included the tom, the coon, the tragic mulatto, the mammy, and the brutal black buck. In the last decade or so two new stereotypes emerged in the African American society, the black radical which developed during the Black Panther era, and the gangsta which could be argued to be the modern black buck. The hit animated television series, The Boondocks reaffirms these stereotypes and the classic tom and tragic mulatto stereotypes but purifies them with the intent to spark a change in the African…

The word "bigot" is a powerful word. It is a word that many feel to be of the utmost offense, and yet, by definition, it is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices. With this in mind, and human nature's impeccable ability to draw stereotypes for every type of person, can't we all be considered "bigots?" In Bill Cosby's short satire, "On Prejudice," this issue is concisely addressed and brought to it's knees through his use of sarcasm, and an ability to corner any stereotype by just simply bringing it to a clear, succinct truth. While many balked at the idea of racial prejudice and stereotypes during the 1970's, Cosby approached it with honesty and candor. His use of vulgar words, diffident body…

The film The "Mammy" Stereotype of Black Women in Ethnic Notions shows an important era for Black people in television. The film show how black people were first seen in television, cartoons depicting how black people look: with the big lips, big buttocks and very dark skin. This image of black people was damaging as it was showing that black people had dark skin and big lips and buttocks. The cartoons in my opinion and the first imagery they showed of black people was insulting, however on the other had it was a great start for black people to get jobs even though the people in the North according to the film were angry as they were losing jobs because of black people moving to the inner cities. In the film black males were most dominate than female actors and they…

Celebrities are stereotyped in many ways. People say that they have the latest in technology, they are stuck up, they always get away with their bad behavior, they always wear fancy clothes, they are all selfish, and they are all rich. For example, super bowl officials say Beyonce's list of demands stretched so far, being so absurd there was no way they could accommodate her. The list included $6,000 of imported cigars for her husband, Jay-Z, to use as she performed and that baby Blue Ivy’s got a $233,000 carriage to be flown in on. Some people stereotype celebrities as irresponsible and can always get away with their bad behavior. They think this because many celebrities seem to escape jail easily. In my age group the majority of people think…

This is one of the quotes that has made Donald Trump gain so much attention and fame in the last two months. Why? Because he is stereotyping the Latin American race. Unfortunately, Mr. Trump is not the only person in the world to stereotype against the Latin American race. Many people around the world may assume that the Latin American race is all about the spicy food, the distinct mariachi music, and the clothes, and the language. In the United States, the stereotype that many people have against us have changed over time. Now, it’s that we only work as carpenters, lawn mowers, restaurants, and any other type of leftover job that other people do not want; and we all know what Donald Trump’s stereotypes of Latin Americans are: drug dealers,…

I often hear black women refer to men as dogs, good for nothing, or just down right trifling. However, we as black mothers of black sons can’t ignore the fact that we are raising some of these same men that we relay those negative stereotypes to. Whether you are a single mother or a married, you have to pay attention to message you are sending to your sons. Just as your daughters are watching you, your sons are also watching you. Some women don’t realize the impact they have on their sons but a man normally learns responsibility, love, and respect from his mother. If you are allowing your son(s) to play video games all day without doing chores, or challenging him in his academics, he will most likely carry some of those lazy behaviors into…

I think people stereotyping is what brings problems to our everyday life. Like the black lives matter movement to me is her because of stereotyping like racial profiling an individual making it seem like that person is a suspect of crime from the way they look. Many have lost their lives from being stereotyped and many innocent people have gone to jail or prison for stereotype. It is wrong to categorize someone in a group and then accuse them of wrong doing. It isn’t only African Americans being stereotype but women, Asians, Arabs, and Hispanics are as well any minority can fall under the bracket of stereotype. If you are Arab you can be look at as a terrorist. Asians can get confused by others of being Chinese. Hispanics can be stereotype by being known of a gang member…

As a child, being black was never an anomaly for me. I was educated on the issues of white privilege and how black people are often targeted in a world riddled with injustice; my family on my mother’s side hailed from the deep south, so my grandparent’s lives were obviously filled with the turmoil of the racist south. While equality was always something on my mind, even as a child, being born (and raised for a semi-short while) in New York opened my eyes to the many cultures, religious, personalities, genders, and sexualities of the world. Despite this, the general heteronormative nature of the black community (and the bigotry that can spawn from it) worried me especially in a time where I was still learning about myself.…

Stereotypes of African Americans have been around since slavery. Once media got involved it was able to give society a visual as to how other races portrayed them. With television, it’s becoming more and more vivid of how bad the stereotyping is getting. Now a day’s some writers of these shows and try to hide the racial remarks, while others are blunt with it and receive no type of punishment for their actions. You do have some sitcoms that will shine a positive light on the African American community, but these shows never last long. The gatekeepers do not want to put a positive image in your head they want you feel a certain way so therefore they come up with shows like Family Guy and South Park that…

In the film world, Native American Indians have evolved from stereotypical roles such as that of a noble savage to that of the "new hero" into more diverse and complex roles such as Magua in James Fenimore Coopers' 1826 novel The Last of the Mohicans and Scar in The Searchers (1956). Native Americans have challenged these stereotypes by progressing into "what used to be ethnic restricted roles" ( Kubik, 2014). The term noble savage was given to primarily Native American Indian men who were untouched by civilized corruption. These weren't the only racist stereotype terms. used to refer to Native Americans. Some of the terms used were Chief; most who carry that title were never actual chiefs, this was just a common name whites gave to Indian…

In American society it is a social norm for women to be delicate and vulnerable, they are seen as too weak to do the same things men do. This was especially true during the time period in which the stories “The Yellow Wallpaper,” “Jury of her peers,” and “Story of an Hour” were written in. The characteristics of gender roles, shown through in each individual story and hint at the stereotypes that were places on women of that time period. These specific female characters don’t let those stereotypes define them, they break free and show their true strengths. Though their societies would suggest them fragile, the main characters -- Louise Mallard, Minnie Foster Wright, and the narrator of “The Yellow Wallpaper” -- respectively presented in the…

Stereotyping has always been a part of society and unfortunately this leads to the quick judgment of people. Before even meeting a person, someone may have already formed an opinion of another person simply because of the color of their skin or the way that they look. This stereotyping is what leads to racism and discrimination. One stereotype that leads to racism in particular is the stereotype of blacks, and in particular black males. The current stereotype of a black male is a person that is poor and is also a criminal.…

For as long as I can remember, the concept that African American people are expected and assumed to act differently because of our race has often left me bewildered. On multiple occasions, I've been told by both my African American and Caucasian peers in school that I was "acting white" because I was articulate, and I took my education seriously. Making assumptions about how a person should think or act based on their race pigeonholes both the person making the generalization and the person being generalized. It says that based on our skin color, we must accept certain stereotypes about ourselves no matter how wrong they are. For me, education is important, as I see it as a gateway to a better future; for this reason, I do not compromise my…

From Jersey Shore to Zoey 101, stereotypes practically make up reality TV. Whether the stereotypes are offensive to people down South or showing the “expectations” of what different genders should look like, they are dangerous and unfair. Stereotypes are simply a fixed belief that all people with a certain characteristic are the same. When people are put under a label, certain decisions are made that can affect them in harmful ways. Recently, a study was done by Professor Michael Inzlicht on the reactions of people when put into negative stereotyping situations. Inzlicht said, “People are more likely to be aggressive after they’ve faced prejudice in a given situation. They are more likely to exhibit a lack of self control. They have trouble…
