Pina Bausch; Café Muller
For my submission I chose the piece Café Muller choreographed by Pina Bausch, which expresses the style in Dance Theater while expressing anguish with the context of the Holocaust. The excerpt from Café Muller to me is about the two different times of couple’s lives, the time before and after the effects of holocaust with two of the dancers playing the same character and the other two playing the parental figures. This style is achieved though a mix of acting and dancing becoming one in the same in the form of Contemporary Modern Dance as expressed through Pina Bausch’s style of sub category Dance Theater which in her case is motivated by her experiences and emotion with the holocaust. This piece shows either two different realities or points in time each distinct by different ranges in emotion within a similar looking pairs of leads In this piece female looking malnourished and looking for something unseen by the parents and main male, while he reacts to them being apart while the parents make sure in his rage he doesn’t do damage shows the after. To the right of the stage is a similar looking couple, composed of a man with the clean cut hair and a black suit and the woman often sitting on a chair taking of her nightgown is the before. Throughout the before everything is calm and you can see them walking side by side, carrying out their lives normally, while the after takes place you can see the desperation in both of them while the father like figure makes way …show more content…
In this the desperation is shown, though their movements and emotions as every action of both times furthers the plot a style specific to Dance
