Analyzing The Character Of Friar Lawrence In Shakespeare's 'Romeo And Juliet'
I think that Friar Lawrence shouldn't be punished because he never tried to cause any of the bad things that happened to Romeo and Juliet intentionally. He also is always trying to make Verona a safer place for its citizens. He also helped Juliet and Romeo be together even though he knew that he would be punished if he did. He even helped them when he knew it would not end the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues which was one of the main reasons he helped them to begin with. In the end the Friar was a truly selfless individual who put the needs of Romeo and Juliet and Verona’s citizens over the needs of himself

I do believe however that Lord Capulet should be punished because he caused a lot of the conflicts that led to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. He directly caused Juliet to need to drink the potion by selfishly forcing her to marry Paris so that he didn’t look bad. He also didn’t let anybody even try to defend Juliet’s side just because he was angry. Which is a sign of a very terrible parent. Lord Capulet was selfish he didn’t listen to reason when he was angry and was overall a bad individual who indirectly caused

Even though it seemed cruel when she told Juliet that she would have Romeo killed for her that was only because she thought that it would help Juliet because she didn’t know that she was in love with him. She didn’t argue with Lord Capulet because in the time that the story is set in women had no say in basically anything so it would have been a fruitless effort. She also gave Juliet the choice to marry Paris in the beginning of the story which even though the choice was taken away later was still much better than how most marriages happen in the time Romeo and Juliet is set in happened. Lady Capulet while not the nicest most considerate character in the story still never did anything that she would deserve punishment for

lord capulet is the person responsible for romeo and juliet's deaths. One reason lord capulet is to blame is because he had a feud with lord montague “see, what a scourge is laid upon your hate”(5.3.291). The feud that lord capulet has with the montague is to blame because if there were no feud, Romeo and Juliet would not have had to go behind their parents backs and get married without permission.then lord capulet would not have tried to force Juliet to marry county paris. This brings me to my second point:Lord capulet forced juliet to marry paris when she really didn't want to; “I tell thee what. get thee to church o’ thursday or never after look me in the face again speak not reply not never answer me”(3.5.161-263).If lord capulet had…

Here’s what I think, I think that Friar Lawrence was in charge of the death of Romeo and Juliet. Here are my reasons why I think Friar Lawrence was in charge of Romeo and Juliet,my first reason He knew about Romeo and Juliet liking each other, He secretly married Romeo And Juliet without their parents knowing about it first. And he also thought them getting married would end the family feud but it didn't end the family feud it just got more crazier from their. My second reason, After Friar Lawrence yelling at Romeo because he wanted to kill himself because he banished from the city and he couldn't see Juliet, Friar Lawrence offered Romeo to stay with him at the cell, of course Romeo took it because as long as he gets to see Juliet.…

At the end of the play Friar Laurence found Juliet in the tomb standing next to the dead bodies of Romeo and Paris. He needed to convince her to leave Romeo behind. At this time Friar Laurence tells Juliet, “Come, I’ll dispose of thee among a sisterhood of holy nuns/ Stay not to question for the watch is coming. Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay”(V.iii.168-171). In this quote Friar Laurence told Juliet to come with him and he would cast her among a sisterhood of nuns. I think this showed his motivation due to trying to dispose Juliet so he could not be associated with Romeo and Paris’s deaths. During this scene I also took note that Friar Laurence most likely new Juliet would take her life if he left her, but again his reputation and image trumped saving Juliet’s life. Furthermore, Lord Capulet also put his reputation over the happiness and fate of Juliet, Romeo, and Paris, causing great obliteration of them. I found my next quote when Lord Capulet had talked to Juliet about her marriage to Paris. During this scene Lord Capulet told Juliet, “Hang thee young baggage! Disobedient Wretch!/ I tell thee what, get thee to church o’thursday,/ Or never look me in the face” (III.V.160-162). In this quote Lord Capulet demonstrated his power over Juliet by saying if she does not comply with his wishes she will be…

In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a holy man who is trusted by the main characters, fails to properly apply his priestly duties. Friar Lawrence is a loyal priest of Verona, and is largely responsible for the death of the young couple, Romeo and Juliet. The young couple in love (1, 5 ) listens to the advice of the older, wiser, respected Friar. If Friar Lawrence was so loyal, and never did anything wrong as a priest, then why did he marry two young teenagers, Romeo and Juliet, knowing that the Montagues and the Capulets didn’t get along at all (1, 1 85)? The deaths of Romeo and Juliet are largely to blame on Friar Lawrence.…

Lord Capulet was responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death because he was being really harsh on Juliet's choice on her future.Juliet's father told juliet that if she didn't marry paris she was going to be in big trouble. He mistreated her and said “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch!I tell thee to a church Thursday or never after look me in the face” Had he not said that,it would've made Juliet not worry on what she will do and not ask Friar Lawrence for the sleeping potion and play dead.Lord Capulet also arranged the marriage between…

All through time, there have been various sentimental tragedies. For instance, the play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, is known for its challenging sentimental catastrophe with two star-crossed darlings. Monk Lawrence was there in Romeo's and Juliet's lives; he wedded them, built up an arrangement to keep them together, and was a dear companion all through their tragedies. In any case, Friar Laurence's extraordinary activity in wedding Romeo and Juliet, his extremist arrangement for protecting Juliet from an undesirable marriage to Paris, and his dread of conferring sin all added to the passings of Romeo and Juliet.…

When Juliet is upset over Romeo’s banishment, Friar Lawrence tells her, “If, rather than to marry County Paris, / thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself, / Then is it likely thou wilt undertake / A thing like death to chide away this shame” (4.1.73-76). Juliet is very upset when she hears of Romeo’s banishment and her impending marriage to Paris, so she goes to Friar Lawrence for advice on how to solve the problem. Friar Lawrence sees she is desperate, and he gives her an equally desperate solution to her problem. When Friar Lawrence hears of this engagement, all he wants to do is save his own reputation from getting into trouble for marrying these two children. In attempting to save himself, Friar Lawrence makes a decision that creates infinitely more problems for Romeo and Juliet. When Friar Lawrence sees terrified young Juliet, he takes advantage of her weak emotional state to force her into risky plan that will benefit himself. There were easier ways of helping distraught Juliet, but Friar Lawrence chooses the most outlandish and dangerous one that ended in carnage for a lot of…

Many blame Romeo and Juliet for the choices that they make. However can you blame someone for trying to find a way out when forced into a corner? The choices and actions of other characters in Romeo and Juliet forced Romeo and Juliet into the positions they are in. Into positions where they feel there is nowhere to go but up to heaven in death. The two perpetrators most responsible for this are Friar Laurence and Lord Capulet. If they could not be so irresponsible and unreasonable in their choices and actions, Romeo and Juliet would still be alive and their relationship…

Friar Lawrence married the two, while ignoring the fact that bad things may occur in the future. As time progresses, the lives of Romeo and especially Juliet worsen. I, Lord Capulet, believe that Friar Lawrence should be sentenced to prison for criminal negligence. Friar Lawrence married Juliet and Romeo together knowing that bad things may happen. On top of that, he never even told us that he did. After marrying them, he gave Juliet a sleeping potion to deceive me and many others. That’s unacceptable! Not only that, Friar Lawrence committed perjury for not telling us the truth about Romeo and Juliet until it was too late. Illegally, Friar Lawrence…

In many real-life events, parents are the biggest influence in life, but William Shakespeare's “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet,” proves otherwise. In the story, Romeo, a 16-17 year old boy (assuming from the context clues), and Juliet, a 13 year old girl, fall in love and kill themselves for one another (Romeo killing himself first after he believes that Juliet is dead), but who most people believe is responsible for their deaths is Friar Lawrence, Friar John, or even Balthasar. What they don’t realize is that Lord Capulet is, in fact, responsible.…
