Analyzing The Song I 'M Not The Only One' By Sam Smith
1. “I’m Not The Only One” by Sam Smith (0.25-1.32) My parents got divorced when I was one. I obviously did not understand, at the time, what this meant. I have never known a regular family dynamic. Because of this, I recognize the divorce as a loss of normalcy and weakening relationship with God and my dad. I chose this song because it talks about how one partner in a relationship has been unfaithful in the marriage. This song represents my parents marriage. My mom knew in her gut that something was wrong and my dad had been lying. She turned out to be right. My dad was unfaithful, but he denied it just like the song says, “you say I’m crazy, cuz you don’t think I know what you've done”.
2. “Fix You” by Coldplay (0.15-1.10) I chose this

Before I start this analysis, I would like to point out that this interpretation of this song will be biased in two ways. I am a Christian and my interpretation will be based on my beliefs. My second bias is that I think that this band is one of the most lyrically powerful bands ever and is honestly probably my favorite band right now.…

Ralph has chosen this song as he loves it. It's a song he'd love to be able to play on guitar. Ralph has stated he loves to play his guitar. However he gets frustrated when he try's to play it on his own. He often has his guitar out when he is relaxing in the unit and has stated he wants to write a song about his mum. Ralph actually sung part of a song he had thought up. The lyrics were very warm towards his mum. However this song was very short and maybe if Ralph gets better at the guitar with these lessons he will be able to put a whole song together about his mum. This would be a very positive event as Ralph finds it very difficult to talk about his family at all.…

It does not have a narrative or a straight forward statement. It is an expression of a feeling of ennui and company that helps to mitigate it, even if not with the ideal methods. This, and the other songs on the E.P. were all written while my girlfriend was undergoing intense chemotherapy. This was dark time and methods were bound to be less than ideal. We coped. We survived.…

All though my parents never got a divorce I feel a connection with different pieces of the song and I thoroughly enjoyed the way he expressed his emotions throughout the song in words I would have never thought of using. The song is very vocal with a quite instrumental background that ties it all together, he uses so much emotion and power in his singing that it’s hard not to feel the same emotions he is feeling in this song. He talks about his parents fighting and him trying to keep them together which I feel like most children have tried to do when their parents are fighting.…

In music, I compare my troubles and tribulations with the lyrics. Towards the middle of the piece, it begins to build up. When I was around 9 years old, my mom passed away from failure to receive a liver transplant. This hit my family hard and to this day, we are still haunted by the day God took her away. Since this is the middle of the piece, it's starting to have emotion and deep feelings within it. Anger, hurt, and sorrow was what I was feeling when my mom passed away. I was confused and mad at the world. I didn't quite understand why people had to die since I was only 9 after all. There was always a question of why and to this day, there still is.…

This song enhances human understanding by telling what is really happening in the world; the status quo of our society. Some of us tolerate the injustice and violence that we see on TV, social media, and the like, but this song reminds us that we are here to spread love, not violence, hatred, and pain. This song just helps us realize that what most of us tolerate is wrong by showing how these issues greatly affects the youth, races, and the rest of the world.…

The lyrics aren’t just narrating the lives of Lisa, Nicole and Erica; it is narrating what millions of children are going through. This song portrays real life situations and I can guarantee you that every word in verse 1, 2 and 3 are completely true from the part where Lisa gets sexually abused to where Nicole is harassed by her step father. Translocation involves the transport of organic materials produced through photosynthesis, such as sucrose, from the leaves to other parts of the plants where they are utilized. It occurs in the phloem sieve tube between the source end(near the leaves); where sucrose is loaded due to the process of photosynthesis by the palisade and spongy mesophyll cells to the sink end(near the end where sucrose is unloaded for respiration and storage purposes).…
