Experimental Investigation of the relationship between centripetal force(Fc) and velocity.
In this lab, students need to design an experimental about the circular motion and measure the value of the centripetal force Equipment: A rubber stopper A straw Masses with 50g,100g, 150g, 200g and 250g. A watch Procedure:
1.
Measure and record the mass of your rubber stopper.Tie the stopper to one end of the cord and pass another end of the cord through the straw and attach a
50g(100g, 150g, 200g) mass hanger. Tie a knot in the cord so it is a short distance below the end of the straw when the stopper is whirled in a horizontal circles.Record the data.
2.
Try to whirl the stopper above the head in a horizontal path. The students can control the speed when stopper is doing its circular path.(Notice: it is not proper when the stopper start to fall or rise which means the speed is too slow or fast) Record the data.
3.
When one student is doing the circular motion, another student should time a convenient number of revolutions.Record the data.
4.
Use the data recording from the previous steps and formula provided by the teacher.(formula is v=d/t)
5.
repeat the step 3 and 4 with the masses of 100g,150g, 200g and 250g. And prevent from the deviation, the lap should be repeated for 3 times for each mass.
6.
Make the table of data recorded including the centripetal force which provided by the gravity. And stretch a graph about the relationship between centripetal force and stopper velocity according to data.
