Mesopotamia built huge structures even though they were the first civilization ever but, just because they were the first civilization doesn’t mean that they were perfect. In fact, the mesopotamian city-states didn’t have much in common at all, causing them to fight. Mesopotamia was a very advanced civilization. Mesopotamians had very little in common. Mesopotamia was the first civilization ever established. According to valley along which the River Nile runs, “The Mesopotamian civilization developed between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates.” Mesopotamia was developed between two rivers so that they could have fertile land and be able to use the river to trade goods because Mesopotamia lived by farming and trading. An Advanced Civilization The people of Mesopotamia was able to build such huge structures because they were an advanced civilization. According to the Geology Department, “But irrigation is not easy. Usually, irrigation schemes require a large investment of money or labor or both.” Irrigation schemes means the plans to build an irrigation system. An irrigation system is a system that is used to carry water to use for one’s crops or one’s personal needs. This means that the Mesopotamians would have to be advanced to be able to build and plan an irrigation system. If they were advanced it would help them to build huge structures. According to The Sumerians of Mesopotamia, “A typical Sumerian city was well fortified with thick, tall walls which the king was responsible for maintaining, in hopes of deterring would-be attackers.” Deterring means discouraging someone from doing something. This is telling us that Sumerians were thinking ahead so they didn’t get attacked. That tells us that they were an advanced society. Lastly, Mesopotamia was able to build big structure because they were an advanced civilization.
