The Harappan and Minoan civilizations both had complex religious beliefs. Little is known about the Harappan civilizations religious beliefs. It is thought that, because of the evidence of being an extremely sophisticated and technologically advanced civilization, astronomy and some elements of Hinduism, like yoga and philosophy may have had an influence on the civilization. In large contrast the Minoans put their faith in a matriarchal religion. They believed mainly in goddesses and saw their kings as priests and their queens as priestesses. The Minoans held up certain animals, mainly snakes and bulls. The Minoans religious deities were symbols. They held the bull on such a high standard that it is though that the men would leap over bulls to impress the women of their communities. Both of the civilizations have evidence of their religious beliefs in their art, but even then their religions are completely different.
The two greatest civilizations in World History are also some of the most mysterious because their writings have not been deciphered. The entire Harappan civilization is lost because their writing was not translated, or has not been knowingly translated, by anyone of the ancient cultures that had crossed their paths or conquered them. The Minoans have an undeciphered writing system as well, known as Linear A. Although Linear A does have some hope in being a puzzle solved, we just don’t know how to solve it yet. Both
