The Aulos was mostly played in Classical Athens. The Aulos was a big part of Ancient Greece music. The Aulos was a common instrument in Ancient Greece. The Aulos was played at funerals and a lot of festivals. The Aulos has been seen as early as the Neolithic period in vase paintings. In Ancient Greece students were taught how to play the Aulos in school. The Aulos was double piped and required a lot of force to play it. The Classical period happened right after Ancient Greece won the persian were and were free from the Persians. The Classical age was ruled by a democracy.

Music was played in religious ceremonies, marriage, and funerals. Most instruments from Ancient Greece were found in vase paintings. Nobody knew how a lot of the Greek instruments sounded. Paintings and sculptures gave a lot of information on instruments because that period was so long ago. The most common instruments in Ancient Greece were the aulos, the lyre, and the kithara. To keep animals from misbehaving shepherds played their instruments to their flock. If it wasn't for music not many people in Greece would be very peaceful. People in today's world do not know how ancient Greece music sound, so people usually guess how the instruments sounded based on how they looked. Drums and cymbals were also played in Classical Greece. People are still trying to find out how instruments sound. The aulos was a double piped instrument which required great effort to play it. People in classical Greece called aulos players red faces because their face was always read when they played the instrument. The aulos was made out of cane, boxwood, bone, and ivory. The aulos was the most commonly played instrument in ancient Greece. The Aulos was played at births, festivals, and funerals. The aulos was played in private drinking parties. Players from Thebes invented the rings and keys on the aulos. On Greek sculptures and architecture people were shown playing the aulos and this is how people found out about the aulos. A lot of people thought that the aulos sounded kind of like an oboe or a flute because they were in the same family. The aulos was so hard to play that the players had to develope a strict breathing pattern while playing the aulos or they would mess up. The aulos was a big instrument in music because of how it sounded. The way it sounded relaxed animals so they wouldn't misbehave. Shepherds always played it to their flock, i bet it was hard to play the aulos and pay attention to the flock because again the aulos was a lot of hard work. The aulos was a very soothing instrument too bad they didn't have recording back then so now it is a mystery of how the aulos
