Albatross in the natural world, he is punished for his actions by mist and wind disappearing. After the killing occurred, the crew praised the Ancient Mariner for his deed. The ship stopped and the crew lacked water when the sun rose. The sailors then hung the Albatross around the Ancient Mariner placing everything on him causing this conflict.
The spiritual world occurs when the Ancient Mariner shoots the Albatross.
The Albatross is an animal, but became a spirit and murders the sailors. He kills it with no hesitation. After that, the punishment starts for the Ancient Mariner in the spiritual world and the other sailors by making every moment painful. The crew is dehydrated, with no wind, lacking the boat to move, and are threatened by creatures and strange lights. The crew punishes him physically for his spiritual wrong.
The spiritual world involves the ghost ship carrying Death and Life-in-Death gambling, when the Ancient Mariner is unconscious on the deck,hearing the First Voice and Second Voice discussing his fate. When the angels arrive in the sailors’ bodies, they just steer the ship quietly. In all these events, it’s not possible whether the spirits are real or figments of his imagination. The Ancient Mariner's prayers do have an effect when he blesses the water-snakes and is hydrated by rain water.
As fate goes, Life-in-Death and Death gambled for the Ancient Mariner's soul, Life-in-Death won. The sun sank into the ocean, night fell rapidly and the ghost ship left. The Ancient Mariner was stared down by the sailors cursing him with their eyes. When all the crew dropped dead, the Ancient Mariner watched each sailor's soul leave out of his body remembering the arrow he shot at the Albatross, "And every soul, it passed me by, Like the whiz of my
cross-bow!"
