My poem is by Tupac Shakur. This poem is titled “And 2Morrow”. He was an activist of violence and gangs. So in this poem Tupac discusses the downs of gang-life. Tupac wrote this poem in a text message way of writing. He spells “tomorrow” “2Morrow”, “see” “c”, and “to” “2”. I believe he did this because he was speaking to his audience, gang member or soon to be gang member, in their language. Tupac is not illiterate so he spelled all his words correctly in the last stanza of the poem.
And 2Morrow
Today is filled with anger fueled with hidden hate scared of being outcast afraid of common fate
In this first stanza there is a rhyming scheme. “Hate” and “fate” rhyme. Fate determines who and what you will be. When he wrote “afraid of common fate”, he was saying that he is afraid that gang-life is going to become his destiny. The rhyme scheme in this poem is A,B,C,B. The mood in this stanza is worried or anxious.
Today is built on tragedies which no one wants 2 face nightmares 2 humanities and morally disgraced
When he speaks about tragedies he is talking about death. So many people die a year because of gang related acts. Tupac feels that gang-life is morally disgraced because it’s unacceptable to society and humanity. The rhyme scheme in this stanza is D,E,F,E. The mood is this stanza getting worse. It went from worried to afraid.
Tonight is filled with rage violence in the air children bred with ruthlessness because no one at home cares
This stanza shows that the gang life is now worsening. This poem is written in a time scheme. The first two stanzas talks about what happened today and now this stanza is focusing on tonight. It says “Tonight is filled with rage”. Early in the day it was just anger but now its rage. This stanza also talks about the children and how they were raised to be ruthless. The rhyme scheme in this stanza is G,H,I,H. The mood of this stanza is horrified.
Tonight I lay my head down but the pressure never stops
