Andrew Carnegie grew to be a powerful business man. He was self-made which means he started out with nothing then became successful on his own. Andrew was born in Scotland in the year of 1835 and grew up poor. He later started working as a bobbin boy but had little earnings at the age of 12. In 1872, he adopted the Bessemer Process and built a steel mill in Pittsburgh. As a result of his wealth, Carnegie gave away $350,695,653 which helped others. The philanthropy of Andrew Carnegie made him a known hero. Carnegie was a self-made man according to document A. In document A, 2 photos are shown of where Carnegie lived. According to the notes of both pictures, "Birthplace cottage of Andrew Carnegie, Dunfermline, Scotland...Years of residence:
1835-1848. Annual rent: $20" and "Skibo castle, Dornoch Firth, Scotland. Andrew Carnegie purchased Skibo castle in 1897...Renovation cost: about $10,000,000." These quotes show that he started out in his cottage and lived there for 13 years then moved to Skibo castle because he worked hard for it. This shows that Carnegie was a hero. Carnegie became a hero because he gave a lot of his wealth to others that needed it. Document C shows a chart created by Joseph Frazier Wall, Andrew Carnegie, New York, Oxford University Press 1970. Based on document C, "The Carnegie Corporation's net assets in 2005 were listed at $2,167,000,000. The foundation is currently giving out about $100,000,000 a year, most of it to education." This shows that his corporation helps others today by funding money yearly and most of it is used for education. Although some people might not think that he wasn't a hero, this evidence shows that he helped and still does till this day. As you can see, Andrew Carnegie was a helpful person. He gave away large portions of his money for those who needed it. His generosity is what made him a hero.
