Shoe Band leading to a successful defeat against the Creek Indians. Before accomplishing this defeat Andrew Jackson tried to persuade the government to let him authorize a punitive expedition against the Creek Indian. The government gave him no authorization because of the probable feeling Jackson felt towards the Indian. Andrew Jackson, let a treaty pass towards the Indians taking away their rights and most of the land they owned. For Jackson, the Creeks were barbarians who killed their women and children. This was considered an appropriate punishment for the creeks that were responsible.
Another main event during the Jackson period was the Panic of 1819 which was an economic depression that lasted four years. This action was caused by the Second Bank of the United States. For Jackson the 2nd bank of the U.S was fraud since it was supposed to keep deposit ratios stable. This action only accelerated dysfunction that resulted in the Panic of 1819. Jackson came to a head to head to war against Henry Clay and Nicolas Biddle when they forced Jackson to sign the bank bill and threaten him to crush his in re-election. In order, for Andrew Jackson for the bank of the United States to be dead Jackson vetoed the bill, acted against congress committees, cabinet members, and he replaced two of his employees that were the secretaries of the treasury. After a long debate with congress, people, and the press the federal deposits were not returned to the Second Bank and expired in 1836 were Jackson kill the bank war.
Furthermore, another controversy that was mentioned in James C. Curtis book was the Ordinance of Nullification which, was passed by the South Carolina legislature in 1832. During Jackson’s presidency, this was one of the most tremendous crisis ever occurred. Nullification Crisis took in between the 1832-1833, involving the South Carolina led by John C. Calhoun and the federal government. Jackson was not pleased and began to argue and outlining the reason that led South Carolina to be able and pass the ordinance. What led to this, was caused by the tariffs of 1828 and 1832 that affected the southern economy even more that it was already hurt by the panic of 1819. When John C. Calhoun, voted to nullify the tariff and told everyone about nullifying the tariffs it almost created a civil war. He had the idea that states could do whatever they please and refuse to follow a federal law and by that nullifying it. To end this crisis South Carolina, agree to a new, fairer tariff that was led on by congress.
In conclusion, people and events shaped Andrew Jacksons personality.
Jackson wanted to destroy all enemies who harm citizen and everyone else, he wanted to defend his reputation, and restore virtue to government. Aside from handling everything about congress, bills, presidency, and wars he adopted two young Native Americans. From winning against the Creek Indians, stopping the Second Bank of the U.S, and the Nullification Crisis he demonstrated that United States is more of a nation, rather than just states with federal laws and agreements. After a long ride Jackson finally returned to his family in Tennessee, and passed away at the age of seventy-eight. He was the seventh president of the United
States.
