Jackson encouraged Westward expansion which opened up new fertile farmland in the South. The expansion allowed America
to sustain its rapidly growing population. On the other hand, the expansion to the West also led to Native American removal policies such as the Indian Removal Act. As well as the Trail of Tears, which forced thousands of Indians to move from the South to the West resulting in many deaths and Jackson’s tarnished reputation.
Another major issue that influenced America was Jackson’s view of the national bank. Jackson felt that it gave too much power to the federal government and that money needed to be backed up by something of value. This ultimately caused the Panic of 1837 because Great Britain pulled out its gold and silver from the American market, which negatively impacted the nation
( Palmer).
