Throughout the article, Sullivan put statistics and facts to try and strengthen his claim, He first states, “There is no evidence that shows any deleterious impact on a child brought up by two homosexual parents…” (32). Later on he says, “If nothing else were done at all, and gay marriage were legalized, 90
percent of political work necessary to achieve gay and lesbian equality would have been achieved” (32). Sullivan is saying that gay parents don’t have a worse impact on children than heterosexual parents. Saying this does not add to his claim, is simply makes the reader question how he got this fact. He then proceeds to say if gay marriage were legalized, then most of the equality would finally be reached. Throwing out a percentage but not saying where it came from makes the reader question if it is actually a correct statement.
