I am Andromeda, princess to Joppa and daughter of Queen Cassiopeia and King Cepheus. Born and raised in Joppa, I know the way everything works around here and I was prepared to take over the throne with my beloved Calibos. That was until the day Calibos decided to kill Zeus’ herd of flying horses, leaving only one named Pegasus. In retaliation to this heinous and odious crime, Zeus turned my fiancé into a vile monster, and of course I can no longer marry him. The people of Joppa must have a prestigious King to look up, not a repulsive creature.
The same man who once loved me turned evil and placed a curse on me, taking revenge on a choice I had to make. Now, any suitor who wishes to marry me must pass an impossible riddle, and all who fail must be burned at the stake. I was prepared to give up on finding love, that is until one fateful day. Upon my return from the swamp in which Calibos resides, a man by the name of Perseus presented himself as my suitor. …show more content…
He was a man whom I had seen in a dream, and I recognized him immediately.
I had faith he could answer my riddle. So I began to present it to him. He took a minute before he answered and as I had expected he answered it and presented the hand of Calibos to me. Perseus told me he would break my curse from Calibos and free me.
Our wedding took place almost immediately. Queen Cassiopeia read our vows to us and made one fatal mistake. In the temple of Thetis she compared my own beauty to that of Thetis, angering the goddess. Thetis placed yet another curse on me; in 30 days I must be sacrificed to the Kraken, or the Kraken will destroy all of Joppa. I showed no fear, but I knew that my life as I knew it would be gone in 30
days.
But Perseus was determined to find a way to stop this from happening. He decided to talk to the three cannibalistic and wise witches to ask if there is a way to kill the Kraken. I demanded to accompany him there, since he was so willing to protect my life I must be there to protect his.
We set off the next morning, and after a long horse ride there, we finally arrived. Perseus walks into their cavern, and leaves with the information he needed. He is to slay Medusa.
This time, Perseus would not permit me to accompany him, so I traveled back to Joppa, awaiting his return. It was the 30th day since the curse was placed on me and I had lost all hope for Perseus’ return. I felt hopeless, frustrated, and sad that my life would be coming to an end. At least the people of Joppa whom I love so dearly would be okay.
With my head held high, I walked with my family and closest friends to the rock where I was chained. Helplessly, I waited for the Kraken to appear.
After a couple minutes, a rush of water pierced the respected silence. The Kraken rose out of the water and headed my way. In that same instant, I could hear Pegasus in the distance. Perseus had come back for me.
They were a distraction enough for the Kraken to turn its attention to Perseus. The Kraken and Perseus battle until Perseus finally takes out the head of Medusa. The next instant the Kraken turned to stone and crumbled to pieces, along with my curse.
The town rejoiced and Perseus and I finally married. We lived happily ever after.
