A Charming Horse
Although, I was born in February 1966, it is in August 1965 in my birth certificate because my parents would like I go to school earlier. Change of my birthday, however, did not change my personality; I am still a horse. Based on Chinese’s calendar that came to Iranian’s calendar about 700 years ago there are 12 animals, which are dominate on the years, once in every Twelve years, and the year called to the name of those animals that are respectively: rats, cow , panther, rabbit, whale, snake, horses, sheep, monkey, chicken, dog, and Pig. For example, current year in Iranian calendar is the snake year, last year was the whale year, and I was born in the horse year. Indeed, based on the chines’ zodiac some people believe these animals affect your character according the year when you are born. Since I was born in the horse year, everybody who knows me for a long period knows how I am look like a horse. A comparison between my character and a horse temperament reveal some surprising similarity.
The first thing that is very clear when somebody compare my personality with a horse is the tendency that both of us have to participate in a group. You can imagine a herd of wild horses in a range when the wind is bellowing under their hair, such beautiful herds have always been the source of inspiration for painters and photographers, and because of their fascinating herds the horses are known as social animals. The horses and I like crowded places where could be a race field for a horse or a public place for me. I love attending in family gathering, parties, public events, celebrations, and everywhere that I can spend my time by doing amusement works. In addition, I have a strong ability to adopt myself with others, if those things fit in with my ethical consideration,‎ exactly such as a horse that adopts itself with various situations. Indeed, similar to a horse in its herd when I am in a group, I feel more safety than when I am alone.

Of the four bonds, the intimacy and nurturing bond appeared to be the strongest. The riders often spoke of their horses with affection, referring to the animal as they would a loved one. The friendship appeared two-sided. The horses would often nuzzle and interact physically with their rider. Their horse was a safe haven for the participants. They don’t judge or degrade the equestrian like another human would. One important note made by Yorke, Adams, and Coady was “riding appeared to be the center of the participants’ lives, defining who they were.”…

In America, horoscopes are often looked at for fun to see what a person’s day may have in store. Zodiac signs are not used often as they are in China, where one’s destiny may be effected because of their birth date. The Joy Luck Club mentions the Chinese Zodiac in many chapters of the novel. It is said that, “The Chinese lunar calendar is the longest chronological record in history, dating from 2637 B.C. when the first cycle of the zodiac was introduced”(Meaning). According to the legend, “the Lord Buddha summoned all the animals to come to him before he departed from Earth. Only twelve animals came to bid him farewell. As a reward he named a year after each one in the order that it arrived”(Meaning). The twelve animals were the ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and boar. In the novel, the zodiac signs of the mothers and daughters are stated and said to have a significant impact on their lives. This is shown especially between Waverly and her mother, Lindo. During an argument with her mother Waverly states,…

I have always had a keen interest in horses. Although this passion has grown considerably through time, I can always remember being mesmerized with the realm of the equine. Equine pursuits usually took place in the country and rural areas, a welcome relief from the frantic pace of modern life. In my formative years, I could hardly begin to fathom the idea of pursuing such a hobby. It seemed to me like an unreachable goal and ideal, reserved for the wealthy and privileged. I thus remained satisfied with riding a handful of times and, whenever possible, would secretly admire these magnificent creatures from a distance. My experience has evolved, however, and through time, determination, and a gradual expansion and manifestation of my deepest longings, I have been enabled to explore this wonderful realm. I will describe here how this passion grew by comparing my childhood, equine-related perceptions, feelings and experiences with those of two years ago, when I first purchased my mare Tamrah, and again to today.…

“C-cat,” I mumbled out as a toddler. According to my mother, cat was my first spoken word. If you know anything about me, you would know that I love animals. I started my most fulfilling 4-H project, which was showing Boer goats. Showing goats gave me the opportunity to learn the different phases of taking care of animals. Since animals, usually pets, are sometimes an essential part of one's life, it is not surprising that we find frequent references to its role in works of social realism, such as Wislawa Szymborska's Poems New and Collected and Milan Kundera's Unbearable Lightness of Being. Animals in literature could be used to symbolize all sorts of things, but in particular, animals may represent the personality of a character. This is because as humans and animals co-exist in the same atmosphere, certain aspects of a character reveal themselves in the compassion or even hatred towards the animal. Since animals are often known to trigger the interests of humans, the attitude of the humans towards the animals contributes much to character revelation. Both Szymborska and Kundera use animals to symbolize character personality in their works. Therefore, through looking at animals, although it does seem to be a very commonplace topic, we may gain insight to what the writers are trying to convey about the character. This paper will compare the ways the writers use animals to determine a character's personality or characteristics.…
