Animal Bullying
The horizon melted across the sky, the setting sun nowhere to be seen. A seagull dived across the sky, heading horizon. I sat on the sandy beach, staring at the mesmerizing obediently beside me. Looking at it, a wave of fresh memories came rushing back into my mind, engulfing me in it...... It was a sultry Saturday afternoon, left to my own devices. I sat on my squishy couch, eyes peeled on the goggle box, enjoying my favourite television show, ‘Zero no Tsukaima’. Then, the show finally ended, I rubbed my still bleary eyes and gave the clock a quick glance. It was still early, only 3 o’clock. Wondering what to do, I stared blankly at the ceiling. Then the telephone started ringing shrilly. Without further hesitation, I dashed to answer it and to my surprise, it was my best friend, John inviting me for a ride in the park. I agreed readily. Like a cat on hot brick, I quickly changed and glanced countless times at the clock in the process, then, I quickly boarded my bike and started cycling towards the park. Though the park was only a stone’s throw away from my house, then it seemed as if it was miles away. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally reached the park and found John waiting for me there impatiently. I quickly approached him and we began cycling around while chatting about the interesting happenings in school. Just as we having a whale of our time, a scared ‘mew’ and then a crowd of raucous laughter aroused our attention. We quickly alighted from our bikes and then edged nearer and nearer to the direction where the laughter was coming from. Hiding behind a clump of bushes, we peered carefully through the gaps between the leaves to see what had happened. To our utter horror, three teenage boys formed a small circle around a white and brown splotched cat and each was armed with several rubber bands and a packet of soft drink. Then, one of the boys let loose a rubber band striking the cat near the eye, it retreated and the boy behind it let

The morning went so fast, I was slightly nervous about seeing Josie again since it had been three months since our last encounter. I put on a t-shirt and shorts on then stood in front of the mirror as I splashed my face with water. I looked at the clock and saw it was 11:50 so I grabbed my helmet and jacket as I pushed my motorcycle out the garage. It wasn’t until I got to the street before Subway that I realised my phone had fallen out of my pocket and I had left my wallet at home. I knew then I was going to be late and Josie was going to…

It was a bright and sunny day, and the last bell of the day just went off in St. Mark’s Academy. The rumbling of kids and the slamming of lockers was all you heard as the first day of school was over. You could see class syllabi being trampled on as everyone stormed out of the school and into their parent’s cars or buses. I lived a few blocks down from the school so I was expected to walk each and every day, but it wasn’t a lonely road as I had my friend Josh that just lived a street over from me. Josh and I have been best friends since 3rd grade and you could barely separate us from each other. We loved to play video games and we would talk about them just about every time were together. In the mites of our conversation of who could beat who in halo, Josh stopped and starred at the old abandoned house on Maple St. I turned and said to him and said “what’s up?” he looked and me then back at the house and said i dare you to walk around that house. I looked at him and laughed and said there was no way I would enter that house. The house gave off a foggy feel that made the hair stand up on your back; it had two broken windows, and a front door that would slam continuously as the wind blew. He then…

According to the Merriam Webster’s dictionary the term, “bullying” is defined as. “A form of aggressive behavior manifested by the use of force or coercion to affect others, particularly when the behavior is habitual and involves an imbalance of power. It can include verbal harassment, physical assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexuality, or ability. The ‘imbalance of power’ may be social power and/or physical power. The victim of bullying is sometimes referred to as a ‘target‘. What is cruelty? Cruelty is defined as a deliberate infliction of pain and suffering ("Cruelty", n.d.). Many times these acts of cruelty are due to ignorance or the fact that the owners simply do not care. The most common type of animal cruelty is neglect or abandonment. This occurs when the owner does not provide their pets with food, water, shelter or proper veterinary care. These animals who suffer this type of cruelty often die a slow agonizing death because they are malnourished, dehydrated, or have diseases that go untreated. Other types of cruelty are animal fighting, hoarding, poisoning, shooting, and bestiality (Gianotto, 2001-2008).…

Although legal definitions of animal abuse vary, it is a crime in every State, and many States have enacted laws establishing certain forms of cruelty to animals as felony offenses. The forms of abuse to which animals may be subjected are similar to the forms of abuse children experience, including physical abuse, serious neglect, and even psychological abuse. It has been said that violence begets violence, but what do we know about the nature of the relationship between the abuse of animals and aggressive behavior towards human beings? This paper describes psychiatric, psychological, and criminal research linking animal abuse to violence perpetrated by juveniles and adults. Particular attention is focused on the prevalence of cruelty to animals by children and adolescents and to the role of animal abuse as a possible symptom of conduct disorder. In addition, the motivations and etiology underlying the maltreatment of animals are thoroughly reviewed. The abuse of sentient creatures demands our attention. The research includes recommendations to curb such cruelty, while providing information for additional resources concerned with violence perpetrated against animals and people. It is my hope that the information that this paper offers will contribute to reducing both forms of violence.…

I’m a firm believer in treat others how you would like to be treated, that’s the number one rule and it should be carried out in every aspect of life. What is bullying? Bullying is repeated verbal, physical, social or psychological aggressive behavior by a person or group directed towards a less powerful person or group that is intended to cause harm, distress or fear. If someone was in the position to stop you from being bullied and did nothing how would you feel? Are you even aware of how much pain the victims feel every day? It isn’t a good feeling waking up every day knowing you’re going to get torture and see no way out.…

    verbal bullying

Verbal abuse (also known as reviling) is described as a negative defining statement told to the person or about the person or by withholding any response thus defining the target as non-existent. If the abuser doesn't immediately apologize and indulge in a defining statement, the relationship may be a verbally abusive one. In schools a young person may indulge in verbal abuse — bullying (which often has a physical component) to gain status as superior to the person targeted and to bond with others against the target. Generally the bully knows no other way to connect emotionally, i.e., be bonded with others. In couple relationships the verbal abuser responds to the partner's "separateness," i.e., independent thoughts, views, desires, feelings, expressions (even of happiness) as an irritant or even an attack. While some people believe the abuser has low self-esteem and so attempts to place their victim in a similar position, i.e., to believe negative things about himself or herself this is not usually the case in couple relationships. A man may, for example, disparage a woman partner simply because she has qualities that were disparaged in him, i.e., emotional intelligence, warmth, receptivity and so forth.…

I could hear the wind whilst I closed my eyes; felt its tempest gush as it passed by me. For a moment I felt like I was never calmer than this, and that I had never been this way before; a heart of mixed feelings. I remained as I kept my eyes closed while I heard the birds chirp and the leaves brush the air. “Hey, I’ve found a partner for myself for the annual competition! It’s high time you choose one for yourself as well,” said Rysa. “If you could only help me…” I said with a smirk. “My partner says his friend needs one too. Why don’t you talk it out?” she said. There was hardly a month left when I met Rysa’s partner. His name was Troy and I asked him if he could get me on the phone with his friend. As I spoke to his friend, Luke, we decided to meet and see for ourselves if we could make a good couple for the jive competition. Soon we finalized the deal. Rysa being my best friend and Luke being Troy’s, we decided to practice and prepare for the competition together on her terrace. In no time did we become the best of friends. And here I put forth, the few precious pages of my diary that I maintained until a few weeks back.…

Have you ever thought of tying up someone’s feet and buckle them upside down? Imagine being stuck in that particular matrix situation forever? I pity you if you have. For some reason, the folks at the back of a queue just can’t resist invading your personal space, as if moving forward an inch will somehow catapult them to the front of the queue! I mean I can understand how impatient people can be at times but simply waiting in a line at the bank without banging up against the person in front of them they can get there more effectively. Their pushing and shoving won’t. Believe it or not, this kind of behavior is usually not caused by human malice or some secret society of perverts who are in to rubbing against people’s back. Instead it works like this: you are standing in front of a big crowd and there is a lot of free space around you, so you move forward slightly because hey, why not? It’s a free space except that you have just started an Indiana jones’ technique of rolling a heavy bolder of sack. Those standing behind assume that since more space is being created ahead of them, they should move too. The whole crowd rolles ahead almost like a massive Persian rug sloping down steep hill… It’s this lack of invisibility that’s also responsible for the crowd stampeding like a herd of bison ; snowballing straight ahead and there is poor me existing like a tiny speck ready to be powdered into tiny molecules! When we observe situation like this we tend to imagine greed, mass panic, angry hooligans or football fans as some may call them. I would say crowd stampede is a death trap with all pushing with full force ahead without a care for the lone sufferer in front of them.…

It was a usual, boring day in class and the teacher was not in because she had a meeting to attend to. My hands were clammy. The sweat on the back of my neck was trickling as I was shivering vigorously. I clasped my hands together and slowly looked up to glimpse at the wall clock. As I watched the second hand of the clock ticking away, I gasped. Desperately, I glanced back at my good friend Shilpa, seated behind me. “I need to go” I mouthed these words to her and signaled her with my eyes the direction of the nearest loo. Shilpa just looked skeptically at me and raised an eyebrow. Quite the contrary, she got out from her seat anyways, and the both of us bustled down the school hallways to the loo.…
