Personally, I believe that the classic book, Animal Farm, is one that all should enjoy and prosper from. It is written by Eric Blair, or as he is better known, George Orwell. The whole book is a giant metaphor comparing the corruption of the Soviet Union (under the rule of the Communist Party) into the form of animals on a farm. Each animal represents a specific leader in that time. This utopian novel also has many unique themes that mostly everyone can relate to. They range from the abuse of power, to the dangers of having naïve animals (people) in any system. There is an endless abuse of power in Animal Farm. It just goes to show you that one “leader” can become so power hungry, that they will do whatever it takes to get to the top. This can easily be associated with real life. Not just for government power but also a normal person. For example, a kid in school who wants to be popular can suddenly turn into an unkind, fake person. Suddenly, this person thinks that they are the ruler and can do anything they want. They lose track of who they really are, and what’s to blame? The fact that they are power hungry and their power was abused. Another theme in Animal Farm is how scary it can be to have gullible or naïve people in a system, whatever it may be. I can definitely understand this because it can be related to sports. Say that there’s one person on the team that has no idea what they are talking about. But they tell certain people what their job in different situations is. Such as if the shortstop on a baseball team tells the second baseman to shift over to one side, and the ball is hit the opposite way. Therefore one person has messed up an entire system by changing one thing slightly. Obviously you can tell that I found it easy to relate to the themes of Animal Farm. I consider this book to be one that all schools should be required to read. It warns about abusing the power that is given and that being power hungry
