In this world, there are variety of ways for everyone to experience “leadership.” For instance, an explorer that uses his/her tools to create paths for others to follow can surely be considered as being a “leader,” or shows “leadership.” Furthermore, students who creates clubs and teaches other students with the same interest may also be considered as showing “leadership.” However, there are not only people that show strong leadership, but there are also people that show weak leadership. George Orwell, the author of Animal Farm, uses characters of the book to show poor and excellent leadership, and sends readers a significant message: when proper leadership is not portrayed from the leader, that leader cannot stay in that position any longer. …show more content…
Old Major tends to influence the animals of the farm positively throughout his life. For example, Old Major sings Beasts of England, which “threw the animals into the wildest excitement” (13). Old Major singing Beasts of England unifies all the animals of the farm into one, as Beasts of England turns into a song that motivates all animal to work harder in the future. Unifying a group into one, and giving motivations using songs show that Old Major have powerful leadership. Furthermore, Old Major is the first one to establish an idea of “rebellion” to the farm, explaining and persuading other comrades to follow his vision. For example, old Major says, “whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy” (11). This quote is indicating to humans, who stands on two feet. Old Major wants to emphasize that humans are evil, and that animals need their own freedom and right. Establishing a clear vision of rebellion, and sharing those visions with other comrades show that Old Major can “lead” an idea. Lastly, Old Major’s teachings has led Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer to elaborate “old Major’s teachings into a complete system of thought, to which they gave the name of Animalism” (16). Animalism is what all the animals of the farms are fighting for against humans. If Old Major did not teach anything, and the term “animalism” was not created, the animals would have never had freedom. Old Major teaching …show more content…
Although those two never agree with each other, the two’s actions right after they become leaders is absolutely fantastic. Napoleon and Snowball tries their best to improve the life of animals in the farm. To do so, they create the seven commandments. One example of the commandment is, “all animals are equal”(25). The seven commandments is mostly about animalism, and Snowball and Napoleon makes rules to improve the farm and to reduce problems. Those two are stepping up in the time of difficulty, where animals need to survive without any help from humans. Attempting to improve when it is difficult shows that those two are true leaders of the

When Old Major dies a few nights after his famous Rebellion speech, Napoleon and Snowball, both boars, combine together and formulate his main principles into a philosophy called Animalism. A few nights later when they have defeated Mr Jones in battle and changed the farm name to Animal Farm they work together in running the farm. Snowball teaches the animals to read, whilst Napoleon educates a young group of puppies. It is here where Napoleon first begins to work on the beginning of the Rebellion when he tells Mollie and Bluebell that education was more important to the young than the old as he was preparing for the next generation. However what he was really doing was preparing for the uprising against Snowball, to take charge of the farm, when the dogs would play a pivotal role acting as body guards to him.…

The word “leadership” means, literally, to “go in advance”.1 But what exactly is leadership and what makes someone a leader? Are you born with leadership ability or is it something you acquire and obtain during your life experiences? These questions have been posed many times before and have generated many different answers to them. Over time, various models have emerged to explain the leadership “phenomenon” during that period. The basic theories can be grouped into three distinct areas; trait, behavioral, and situational or contingency.…

Good leadership can be found in an individual that is persevering, does not give up, and encourages others to reach their goals. In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, Ralph and Jack are both given the chance to become leaders. However, both of them display negative qualities that reflect onto the rest of the group. Respect, a given human right, leads to a group disagreeing and falling apart when not upheld. When leaders fail to uphold democratic rights, society falters.…

The capacity for evolution defines the intellectual, emotional, social, physical, spiritual, and historical experience of humanity across time and space. It is this human capacity for simple and complex changes within the structures of self and society which provides the inspiration for the scholarly study of leadership. The term leader naturally conjures up historic examples of remarkable human beings, like, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Junior, Muhammed Ghandi, Mother Theresea, and countless others whose life example points out the ability of an individual to ignite within humanity a yearning for cooperative efforts toward creating and sustaining change. One might say the term leadership demonstrates qualities like commanding, direct, bold, and courageous while others think of servant leaders who give to the community and stay in the shadows. A stereotype associated with a leader is someone who orders people around while yelling or doing other things in a bold manner. After reading this book, you will learn that that stereotype is not completely accurate because we tend to forget the leaders who instead of boldly direct people, stay in the background and let their pupils take the jump at the situations using their own personal skills. These are just two forms of leadership that are used in the book and in everyday life. This symbolism plays a large role throughout the book, enabling us to look at leaders in…

Old Major, a prize-winning boar, gathers the animals of the Manor Farm for a meeting in the big barn. He tells them of a dream he has had in which all animals live together with no human beings to oppress or control them. He tells the animals that they must work toward such a paradise and teaches them a song called “Beasts of England,” in which his dream vision is lyrically described. The animals greet Major’s vision with great enthusiasm. When he dies only three nights after the meeting, three younger pigs, Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer formulate his main principles into a philosophy called Animalism. Late one night, the animals manage to defeat the farmer Mr. Jones in a battle, running him off the land. They rename the property Animal Farm and dedicate themselves to achieving Major’s dream. The cart-horse Boxer devotes himself to the cause with particular zeal, committing his great strength to the prosperity of the farm and adopting as a personal maxim the affirmation “I will work harder.”…

Old Major was very old; old enough that he hasn’t many days left to live. They other animals, who were younger, must have deemed him to be wise and knowledgeable enough about the life he has had. His speech contained many assertions because logically, if he were to declare certain things, like when he said:” only get rid of Man, and the produce of our labor would be our own”, the animals would most likely agree with him. His assertions were effective not only because the animals do look up to him, but also because he was somewhat ‘equal’ with the other animals in terms of their role in the farm; which is to produce for Man. Old major was sure of what he was trying to convey to the rest and getting his main idea across was the first step in getting the others to understand what his actual plans were.…

Old major persuades the animals to believe in his ideals by manipulating them. The language he uses is very manipulative and he always refer the animals to ‘Comrades’ which means friend or someone who is trusted, which catches their attention and persuade them. This also foreshadows what happens in the Russian Revolution where Lenin persuades the Russian people that the country should be a communist country. ‘I feel it my duty to pass on to you such wisdom’ This implies that the message he’s going to say is very important. ‘such wisdom’ is a hyperbole as he exaggerates his message.…

In this book Napoleon and Snowball represent actual historical figures of Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky. They had started as allies at the beginning of the Russian Revolution, like how Napoleon and Snowball were friends when Old Major was alive. After the Russian Revolution Stalin was able to intimidate Trotsky into exile and had him assassinated. This was like when Napoleon drove Snowball away with his vicious dogs. George Orwell also showed allegory in this book by having Napoleon make the animals look at Old Major’s skull when they have Sunday meetings, just like Stalin had Lenin in a glass coffin so everyone can see his dead corpse.…

As Fidel Castro once said, “A revolution is a struggle to the death between the future and the past.” George Orwell throughout his novel Animal Farm demonstrates this idea. The animals represent the people in the Russian Revolution. Struggling for freedom, but not being able to see past the wants of their leaders. The animals and the Russian citizens don’t realize the rights that are being taken from them. Both, the Russians and the animals never questioned authority. In the novel Animal Farm, the farm comes full circle post revolution demonstrating the consequences of having a leader-follower society.…

In addition, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, effective means "producing positive effects", and a leader is "one who heads an organization." I feel sympathetic towards Snowball because even though he was a visionary leader, he was too happy and motivated to do his job and improve animal life that he failed to see the inevitable. Snowball was naive not to know that sooner or later Napoleon would try to take full control over the farm by chasing him out of the way. He should have imagined what Napoleon was going to use the puppies for and should have taken precautions against him. If he had done so, he would not have been chased out of the farm and could have continued to improve the animals’ standard of…
