Animal Farm Old Major's Dream

Old Major’s dream was about how happy life would be when all men are gone. In his dream, he heard a song that he heard when he was younger. The song was called “Beast of England” and he sang it to the farm animals. The tune of the song was “something between Clementine and La Cucaracha” (Orwell 9). Old Major doesn’t like men, because “‘Man is the only creature that consumes without Producing’” (Orwell 5-6). We don’t really do anything for them, but they do a lot for us. An example is they produce food for us, and we don’t do anything in return. After Old Major’s dream, he died and the pigs in the farm made seven commandments that all the animals agreed upon. Those commandments were originally said by Old Major. “1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. 2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. 3. No animal shall wear clothes. 4. No animal shall sleep in a bed. 5. No animal shall drink alcohol. 6. No animal shall kill any other animal. 7. All animals are equal” (Orwell 21). Those seven commandments were the rules he created to govern the animals.
The animals made a new system of living, and the name of that system was called Animalism. Animalism is allegory to Marxism and Communism. Animalism had seven commandments in it, and number 7 was “All animals are equal” (Orwell 21). The farm animals are trying to create an equal society, which is also a communistic society. Old Major states, that “‘among us animals let there be perfect unity, perfect comradeship in the struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades’” (Orwell 7). This quote from Old Major shows how he is trying to push for communism. Old Major represents Marxist/ Leninist thoughts, and both men’s thought was to use the Communist Manifesto, which was written by Karl Marx.
