In the year 1945, George Orwell wrote the book known as Animal Farm. In this fable Orwell used animals to represent important people or factors during the Russian Revolution and Stalin’s take over or rise to power in the 1900’s. He used one character or animal to represent the entire working and peasant class in early communist Russia during that time. The animal he picked to represent them is the cart horse Boxer (LitCharts.com).…
Language can control and manipulate situations in many ways. In the book "Animal Farm" situations are twisted and turned around with the use of language and propaganda, thus being done so by a pig named Squealer. Propaganda is information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view. Squealer can talk his way out of everything, but why he can do this is because of his outstanding use of clear and precise language.…
Achieving the American Dream is something that most Americans strive for during their lifetimes. It is the idea that if we work hard and are determined that we can achieve whatever we set our minds to. Whether it is wealth, fame, family, or a successful career, we all strive to achieve it. It can be different for each one of us, but it is something that we all want to achieve. Although it is a shared goal by many people, but our past shows that it is not an easy thing to accomplish. The novel "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck, the poem "Hope" by Karen Hesse and Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream Speech" all use the aspect of hope as a vital part of achieving the American Dream through their development of perspective and tone.…
Thank you for meeting with me today, Ponyboy. You were once one of Tulsa’s “juvenile delinquents”, yet you became a hometown hero by saving the kids at the church. How has that affected your life? Well, it’s true that I once was a hood, but now I have a family and my brothers also and I am a author. What is your earliest memory of your friends? When we were hanging out when Johnny and Dally were still alive. How has the gang changed since Johnny’s death? We were sad but got use to it, we will miss him. What motivated you to go to college? Getting a better Job and learning more. What happen to the Socs? They went to jail for what they did to us. What happened to the other Greasers? They also have families too. Thank you for your time Ponyboy,…
Dr Martin Luther King Jr's “I have a Dream” speech and Old Major's speech in “Animal Farm” have many similarities with some contrasting presenting skills. Some of the qualities that the two speeches share include what they're fighting for, the wisdom they both share, and they want freedom for future generations, not just for themselves. They also share many rhetorical strategies involving ethos, pathos, and logos along with some propaganda forms. Although these speeches have much in common, they are different because of three main reasons. These reasons are what they think needs to happen to accomplish their goals, the way they present their speeches, and the attitude in which I hold while preaching. The speeches also use different forms of…

This year has marked the fiftieth anniversary of many historical events, including the Rolling Stones first headlining tour, President Lyndon B. Johnson’s declaration of the “War on Poverty,” plans for the World Trade Center were announced, and Mary Poppins debuted on the big screen. However, the story of Mary Poppins, the nanny who flew in with the wind and who advised the Banks’ children that a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down, began long before Julie Andrews appeared on the silver screen in 1964. It began deep in the mind of young Helen Goff, a brave thirteen year old who was left at home with her two younger sisters. Her father, a severe alcoholic, was dead and her grieving mother had gone in the dead of night to attempt to drown herself in a nearby creek. Helen wrapped herself and her sisters in a blanket by the fire, and began to tell the girls a fairytale about a magical white horse who could fly, despite his lack of wings. This was the first time that she had dreamt up a story, and twenty-six years later, she would produce a children’s novel about a character who, much like the white horse, could fly. It would later become a best-selling book and a 1964 acclaimed movie of the same name - Mary Poppins.…

The literature device use in “Animal Farm” is diction. The animal’s diction in the story is very simple and easy to understand, the animals do not use any complex language. However, some animals in the farm especially pigs they are intelligent than other animals. So, they should a good word to make other animal believe in their order and looking trust-able. For example, the Seven Commandments, “All animals are equal” and the pigs changed some words to make new meaning in terms of some animals are more "equal" than others (P88). The reason that Orwell uses this language to force the reader to "think" and follow how manipulation really works, and to show the effects that all animal unconscious with the new commandment. In addition, he wants…
The way society runs has changed drastically over time. Even now, the world is changing just one step at a time, starting from a single action that can lead to multiple acts to create a big difference. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell and the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr, both pieces convince the people or animals that make up their community to be hopeful for a better future despite the corrupted systems that devastate their society. In Animal Farm, George Orwell uses the character of Old Major to encourage the animals of Manor Farm to commence a rebellion against the farm’s owner, Mr. Jones, by informing them of the humans’ wrongdoings of exploiting the animals. In the “I Have a Dream” speech, Martin Luther King…
Do you think that George Orwell compared the animals to the people in Russian History correctly? Orwell did a good job at comparing the animals to the people in the novel “Animal Farm, A Fair Tale. He uses facts about the person to define the animal characters.…
I’d like to begin by quoting Captain Paul Watson, “If you want to know where you would have stood on slavery before the Civil War, don't look at where you stand on slavery today. Look at where you stand on animal rights.” Throughout my presentation I ask that you keep these questions in mind: Is slavery no longer slavery when its not happening to humans? Is abuse not abuse if it isn't happening to your species? And, is murder not considered murder when its not happening to someone like you? If I ask all of you if you love animals, most of you would say yes. Yet its because of people like you that animals like pigs, cows, and chickens suffer and take knives to the neck every second of every minute of every day. Humans have victimized animals so much, that they aren't even considered victims anymore. We have turned living, feeling, breathing beings into inanimate objects such as shoes, and sandwiches. Every year on this planet 60 billion land and 90 billion marine animals are slaughtered without a second thought to feed the greed of humans. In the United States alone, there are more than 5,000 trucks carrying animals to slaughter houses where they will be hung upside down, and while fully conscience, have a bullet put between their eyes or have a knife slash their neck, all in order to feed a group of ungrateful humans who don't even need it for survival. Out of all the abused animals on this planet 98% of them are victims of the meat, egg, and dairy companies. If you consume animals, and the things that come out of animals, you are intentionally causing pain, and suffering. I find it unbelievable how a species that claims to know the difference from right…
